Big Ten Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

Probably have to ask the question of what exactly is Minnesota doing? What are they building towards? Probably have to give Johnson a 3rd year but they aren’t even in the realm of competitive in a down B1G.

Johnson was known as a recruiter right? Don’t see lots of momentum there

Maryland winning by a ton on the road is good for Michigan. Should help their NET and they are on that Q1 fringe.

The big guy they have coming in, I have heard really good things from people I trust. They’re so far behind being good though idk what it will even help them if he’s a stud

Am i the only one that thinks BTN coverage is lacking. Rick Pizzo “today in the B1G things just got real.” You mean Purdue losing a close game at IU and still having a comfortable 2.5 game lead in the conference?? It’s almost like they’re trying so hard to hook the viewer of a bad conference.

I mean they’re definitely trying to hook the viewer, but yeah it can feel over the top or overproduced.

You do have to admit that jostling for seeding is going to be wild for the next month, though. So today was a big day…good/bad conference TBD.

Purdue losing, though, yeah that wasn’t as big of a story as IU actually winning. The Boilers are still comfy up there atop the standings.

Matt Painter is awesome

Today’s results aren’t that wild right? Illinois and Purdue dropping narrow road games against teams a bit worse than them is…sort of what happens?

Not at all wild. Both games were toss ups

Last night Maryland learned a valuable lesson.

81-46 taketh.

But it also giveth.

Weird season for Maryland. They started out 8-0, then went 4-7 in their next 11 games, and now have won four straight. Actually a lot like Juwan’s first year here.

You are who and where you play.

And sometimes when you play, as Northwestern learned the other night.

You’re also how you play, but the good thing is for most teams you’re not why you play. So that at least simplifies it a bit.

Hypothetically speaking, if Pitt turns Quad 1 and we pick up 1 other quad 1 win on the schedule and we have 4… could we sneak in at 11-9?

OSU could turn Q1 eventually if they somehow turn it around. They were #36 prior to today, so even after a slight fall following this loss I’d imagine a couple big wins would knock them back up.

Problem is Maryland is #28 right now, so they’re right on the edge of losing Q1 status. We either need road wins or to beat Indiana at home to get some sure fire Q1 wins.

I think the 12-8 thing is based on the fact that some breaks of that nature are likely. Some will probably go the other way, etc.

Feels like 11-9 would need a Sunday run in BTT, but who knows.

Next 2 games are crucial for OSU. Got a long turnaround for NW on Thursday then MSU on Sunday. Win those, get some positive momentum and then some winnable home games down the stretch.

Big week for MD. At Sparty and vs. PSU. They could help themselves, or not.

IU won 6 of 7 too.
