“Lovecraftian horror.” You got that right! And it took me a second to see that Illinois was on the list, especially since I’d place them after OSU and MSU. Iowa summons a certain, special kind of loathing, though admittedly not there with the demon OSU or MSU. . .
“Illinois”, huh? Doesn’t sound familiar – I’ll check my notes.
LOL. My hate-o-meter:
- MSU – all of you must answer same or I’m coming over there
- Wisconsin – but begrudging respect for their AD for shaping reality
- OSU – Holtmann 4 life
- Nebraska – '97 nonsense will never be forgotten
- Indiana – I don’t hate them as much as I should
- Illinois – Don’t even recall our last win against them and don’t really care that much
- Iowa – for Peyton Sandfort alone
- Maryland – sorry, Hunter
- PSU – something different would be nice
- Minnesota – still some Pitino-era annoyance
- Northwestern – no comment
- Rutgers – respect due
- Purdue – no reason ever been given
You can see I amended my comment after another careful look!
Every time I try to think of our last win against them, my mind immediately just jumps to the practice jersey game in DC after the scary airplane incident. That win was so gratifying. (I’m certain we’ve beaten them since, I just don’t remember it nor do I care either ).
our wins against Illinois are all on the first weekend of the tournament
Not to mention the third weekend of the 89 tournament
Yeah, that really doesn’t look that bad. More like a single T than an ejection. Izzo absolutely gets away with that kind of behavior on the regular.
Aside from the OSU/MSU/ND axis of evil, I tend to compartmentalize my football and basketball hate. I’ve got nothing against Nebrasketball - except that they fired Tim Miles. Miles was one of my favorite non-Michigan coaches.
Completely agree with this. I’m mildly annoyed by Wisconsin football but I hate Wisconsin basketball with a passion. I have no ill-will toward Illinois football but I am really annoyed by their basketball team.
My hot take is that I don’t really care about Notre Dame anymore. I was more annoyed at them when I was in school, but that was when we were playing them more often in football, they were getting soooooo much love from the media. Then we stunk, then they sort of stunk, then we stopped playing them. Even when we did play them I had more respect for their fans and program than places like OSU and MSU.
Most people are better than me at that. To me, Ohio State is Ohio State.
I have basically 0 hatred for OSU basketball. That rivalry is completely a football thing to me. MSU is the true rival in all other sports imo.
Yeah, when called on to explain the reasons for my own hatred, I can’t always rationalize it all.
OSU is my one exception because of how obnoxious their fans are about everything. I would loudly root against their women’s field hockey team just because of their school.
See that’s just it, I’ve always seen that as a football thing. Their basketball and hockey fans are disinterested at best and don’t seem particularly obnoxious to me. OSU football fans are another breed.
And that’s the way it should be.
They’re still OSU to me too. (It’s the same fanbase after all.) I meant more about teams like Nebraska. Also PSU - I don’t like them too much in football but have no issue in basketball.
Wasn’t sure which forum to put this under but is there a chance Llewellyn comes back next year? and do we want him to?
If we’d only had Mitch available that game…
A friend of the family was an usher there and grabbed some souvenirs. I may still have some of the glass in an envelope somewhere.
