Never forget Higgins was on the 2013 National Title game crew
We need a âvomitâ reaction emoji.
Yep, the block was clean.
Sign of a great team
Half the conference is in within a game of each other. Impressive haha
Theyâre not booing him, theyâre saying SUUUUU-eing! Bad joke. Iâll show myself out
This reminds me of a Lions game when Such had a sack early in the game and the crowd started booing heavily. Then for some reason the announcer said they werenât booing, he thought they were chanting Suuuuh.
It was road game, I was so baffled at how somebody could be so dumb to think the opposing fans were celebrating the road teams most hated player.
I wont quit you Juwan
This still seems really strange. Holtmann said he deserved the first T (agreed) but for Higgins who wasnât involved in the play to fly in and toss him just is weird. Holtmann said throughout the game that Higgins wouldnât talk to him. Even when he more calmly reapproaches Higgins, he motions for security.
I just look at that and think reactions like that are a multiple-per-game occurrence for Izzo/Fran/Underwood. Why is it okay for them and not others?
Sounds like he was beefing with Higgins the whole game. His quotes afterward were âthere was one ref I couldnât talk toâŚâ one ref⌠one ref⌠one ref.
So I assume it had been something percolating.
Agreed here, but Higgins was opposite the table and didnât make the call. Green made the call and Kelly was immediately there and they were handling it. For him to fly in, step on their toes and give the boot was unprofessional. And I am one that wants to see better decorum from the coaches.
Allows me to get on my soapbox again to talk about these guys workloads. That was Higgins 64th game this season. Since Saturday he has gone from Stanford, quick turnaround to Purdue, Texas (rivalry game vs. Baylor), Kansas (rivalry game vs. K State), Des Moines and Columbus. You think he is stressed/overworked/tired/irritable? Its human nature and I canât fault the guy but I canât help but think there has to be a better way because that is unfair to him, unfair to Holtmann and unfair to the kids. (Caveat of not knowing what was said between he and Holtmann during the first half, but again I donât see him being over the top like the others Iâve mentioned.)
Just out of curiousity, where do we see Rutgets long term? This is obviously the best team theyâve had, but theyâve generally been a well-coached team choking out more talented teams with effort and play-style.
They could return basically everyone other than McConnell next year, and have, other than Omoruyi, Pikiellâs highest recruit ever coming in (Gavin Griffiths), as well as a guy that just screams âRutgers basketballâ in Baye Ndongo.
I somehow missed it, but for 2024 they have a top 10 recruit (and another top 100 guy)!?
Should I be ready for Rutgers to be elite?
Legitimate threat going forward. Losing Harper and Baker from them being the core of a stretch of three teams that finished 28, 38, 77 on KP and immediately turning out his best team yet is very impressive.
Think heâs a guy that can do more with less and now heâs gonna get the chance to do more with more.
I totally agree with the criticism of Higgins. Thereâs no need for him to be the one to eject Holtman regardless of what beef there was between the two of them earlier in the game. Thatâs like a batter arguing a strike call but the first base ump throws him out. The other refs had it under control.
Also, he deserved the T for sure, but I agree that it is another example of not being consistent. Iâve seen plenty of coaches, including the usual hot heads we talk about, do worse multiple times per game without a T. Holtman earned hisâŚand if the ref who gave him the T felt like he continued enough to get a second one thatâs fine. No need for the third ref to decide from afar that heâs tossed.
They are going to be a consistent top half program. Iâm still not sure what the upside is though. Consistently top 25, sure. What does it take for Rutgers to be a top 10 team though?
We tend to do this thing where we say that top-50 Gavin Griffiths will be an easy replacement for Cam Spencer, but probably not right away (and I like GGâs game).
McConnell is just a huge part of what that team is though as far as defensive identity (and in turn, what makes them good).
Pikiellâs best offense is still the No. 72 offense in the country â thatâs scary longterm.
Seems like Pikiell stepped up his recruiting game. But weâll have to see if Pikiell can take young talented offensive players and mold them to his defensive system while not stifling their offensive game
But next year seems like theyâll still be old so integrating just Griffiths shouldnât be a huge issue. The issue could come when all his vets are gone and he has to coach a somewhat young team
Spencer can come back though, right? I know the covid year thing isnât a given, but it wouldnât shock me to see him and Mulcahy back.
If they get Spencer, Mulcahy and Cliff back Iâm all in on TOP 5 RUTGERS
