Big Ten Basketball 2021-22 Discussion

I maintain that any serious fan of Michigan basketball shouldn’t still be complaining about a loss from a season ago that in the grand scheme of things meant nothing. Again, I was frustrated with the loss then and that’s completely normal but to be complaining about it so much at this point just seems odd. Just seems like negativity for the sake of being negative but to each their own.

Sounds like the Michigan I know

Yes, that’s right. So no need for any of the “I maintain that any serious fan of Michigan basketball shouldn’t still be _________” stuff. Not your business to tell anyone else how to do it.

That’s fair, as someone who is generally positive it doesn’t make sense to gatekeep negativity. I just generally get put off by the aura around Michigan football fandom and that kind of talk just feels like football’s negativity seeping into basketball lol

Negativity seeping is a fun pair of words. Also apt in this context.

Negativity Seeping was me and Ernie’s band, but as with so many rock and roll stories the creative tension was too much and so we both went on to have unsatisfying solo careers.

On another note today, FWIW espn came out with their early tourney bracketology and #1 seeds listed are Mich, Kansas, Gonzaga and UCLA. Mich with some preseason hype which is a welcome site.

LOL. You’re not supposed to be actually paying attention, OK?

Maynard was distraught; needed an update. EDIT: Reading the recent Jamie Shaw re: Dug McDaniels post, I’m convinced their next album should be “Bleeding Intangibles”. Set for release in 2034.

I am honored that my name is mentioned with yours, Nick!

You’ve written an exceptional piece, Well written, and both thoughtful and thought provoking at the same time. You’ve included an historical perspective and have made very cogent arguments to support your positions. You’ve even caused me to run to my dictionary to look up the word coprophagous, but I must say I wish I hadn’t looked it up! Yuck! You certainly expressed a complete disdain for Greg Gard. A feces eating insect?!? Oh, my goodness!

Thanks for a great read! And thanks, too, bobohle, for including me in a group with such a fine writer, one who can make the reader literally see, feel, and smell his descriptions! THAT is good writing! Truly disgusting in places, FECES EATING, but SO good, so spot on, so true! Well done!

Tolerable Big10 losses: Iowa. Purdue. Sometimes UMD and Rutgers, who aren’t real BIG10 anyway, and occasionally are OK.

Intolerable losses: others

Stab my eyes out: MSU, IU, OSU (not because of Jimmy Jackson, who was good, but because of Maurice Clarett)

Lunardi’s bracketology…8-9 teams seems about right to me

(1) Michigan
(2) Purdue
(3) Ohio State
(4) Maryland
(5) Michigan State
(7) Illinois
(10) Iowa
(10) Indiana

First four out: Rutgers
Next four out: Wisconsin

Ahem, Iowa?

Keegan Murray is gonna have to be that dude if Iowa is going to make the tournament

I have no evidence or supporting data for this but, does it seem as though this could be a semi down year for the B1G? More like 7 teams in the tourney? It seems as though the top two tiers are fairly set:

Michigan / Purdue / OSU

Maryland / Michigan St / Illinois

After that, it feels like a version of the wild west that could go downhill pretty quickly for some these schools. Am I way off base here?

I think Indiana is probably in that next mix but Woodson is a wild card. I think there’s a pretty big drop off from there.

That’s my take on it. The season always throws a surprise in their but it seems like there are a bunch of teams that could miss the tournament. More than the usual amount.
