Vermont cheddar is better.
It could be good imo, but they would have to play in a way I’ve never seen an Izzo team play before
He also could have had Marble and/or Bingham come back. He has to like something about their 5’s, right?
we know there is a ton of Kohler hype. he’s going to play right away. but start? play 32 mpg?
if Kohler is freshman Hunter they’ll be more than fine. but even if he is super skilled 7 feet is 7 feet. it’s not really a fair comparison.
are there any true freshman 6’8" centers in recent memory that have balled out? Nick Ward I guess but he played 19 mpg
Hunter is going to turn Kohler into Cole-Slaw
come to think of it, 16-17 MSU is a decent reference point for this roster. Freshman Ward was their tallest player and purest C at 6’9". He split the 5 with 6’7" Kenny Goins (as a 0 3PA sophomore, before he acquired his jumper). According to Kenpom Miles Bridges also played small ball 5.
Ward : Kohler
Goins : Sissoko
Hauser : Bridges
Didn’t both voluntarily leave?
Bridges never played 5, looking at kenpom’s most common lineups Goins or Ward were both either in the game. If they got into real trouble they would bring in Van Dyk
I think Kohler is going to be fine at center at 6-9 in general. That’s how tall TJD and Trevion were. And Juwan for that matter.
The bigger question is whether Izzo will ever play him more than 18 minutes.
Izzo has a tendency to pull his player off the court if they make a mistake. I can see it happening quite often with Kohler.
what if he is instantly awesome like Cody Zeller?
Zeller was solid defensively. Kohler is a traffic cone (no disrespect to Chris Paul). No matter how well he plays offensively as a freshman, he will be a liability on defense
TJD is way more athletic, and I wouldn’t say Trevion is known for his defensive capabilities.
Kohler looks about the same height as Tarris from what the dunking video
I am genuinely curious as I don’t know all that much about Kohler. If we take out all of the inevitable, predictable hype from MSU fans, how many of you guys really think that Kohler would be a good 5 for them as a freshman? Like if he was the same exact player but committed to, say, Butler or Oklahoma or even another Big Ten school. Is he even supposed to be a 5 or was he originally recruited as a 4? Just curious what you guys think because I trust you guys and like I said, I know very little about the kid.
he is a genuinely great prospect for college because he has a super high floor, great footwork, but not the athleticism that sees guys leave early
I can’t say we would know his name as a freshman at Butler but almost certainly as a junior
I know you’re being a little TIC but wasn’t Zeller a top-10 guy and 7-0? Kohler is top-50 and 6-9.
yes. just thinking worst-case scenario for Michigan. which is more realistically Nick Ward I guess? Nick Ward with less foul trouble?
Nick Ward but with less volatility and some sort of jump shot
cool customer Nick Ward
