Big Ten Basketball 2021-22 Discussion

do I misunderstand the Xavier Johnson situation? I wouldn’t expect that to kick him off the team. Would it?

edit I forgot his legal resume, could be a third strike

Is there anything specific and new that I missed on Max Christie? The spartanhoops guys I know have downplayed the rumors for a full week saying they guarantee he’s back, then this morning that flipped completely and they’re saying they heard he’s gone.

What are they saying on the MSU side now? All I know from M side is Dotman had a sudden flip as well re: Christie about a week ago. Nothing specific other than suggestions his camp wasn’t happy with the way he was used, which is pretty preposterous but I enjoy it

Yep Dot shared that Christie, even if he doesnt go pro, its very likely he won’t return to MSU (or something to that extent).

Color me skeptical. No one gets away from Izzo that easily.

The people who cover MSU know where things sit, there is clear evidence that at least one decision has been made. Might be a while before anyone reports it, or maybe never, as was the case with Bates.

You look good in skeptical?

Juwan IMHO would use Christie correctly thereby turning him into a top 5 pick just my 2 cents

Gonna be very interesting to see how that plays out. Lotta MSU people online giving the classic “He’ll test the waters, but ultimately when he’s back there’ll be a lot of great stuff for him to work on. He’ll be a great sophomore here!”. They seem so certain, which isn’t surprising. I’m yet to see an MSU source that’s truly locked into things.

From a strategic standpoint, MSU will have a lot of work to do without Christie. Lots of potential attrition there but I still think Hall, Walker, Hoggard, Akins, Brooks is a decent group. They seemed to be hard after that Bridges guy from WVU, he would be a good fit/add.

There are reporters that have real sources and those that are more fans than objective.

Most fans do wishful reporting, prolifically.

They won’t give me anything specific, other than relaying certain message board posters from the MSU camp that they trust are now reporting that it’s a done deal he won’t return to MSU. And that was a definite flip from their original takes on the subject after Christie “announced” he was testing the waters.

Still feels like nothing more than rumors from their side. But enough smoke that there’s probably fire, especially with @DOTMAN’s comments.

Speaking of MSU here’s a question. Bingham and Brown are already gone and Christie may be next. What do you do if you’re Joey Hauser? And what does MSU want you to do?

Could Hauser be your starting 5 next year if you commit to a five-out offense? Do you want him to move on to feature Hall as the full-time 4? Would Hauser accept a diminished bench role?

Or does he just come back for more of the same? Hauser starts, Hall off the bench, both play 22mpg?

Yuck… especially since that actually would probably be good for him. Their slow and methodical system would probably be a good fit for him.

As a Michigan fan, I’d be elated if Hauser was their starting 5

OSU people were talking as if he were gone. I guess he kind of fell out of the rotation? But also a lot of spots are opening up so idk

I never noticed how funny this was until now
