You could just determine what the win expectations are for play in 11s vs 12s and use those instead of baseline 11s
It makes sense from a statistical perspective. Mostly just taking a shot at the guy who I think has a legitimate claim to being the best tournament coach of the last twenty years.
I would argue it should still show his “loss” from last year without regard to the expectations of that seed line- Wins and losses are a separate issue from expectations. It should still “count” against him in our minds.
I think the issue is more that you wouldn’t really want to count that as an NCAA Tournament win when calculating wins over expectation.
A team that wins the play-in but loses in the first round should be the same as a team that isn’t in the play in but loses in the first round.
Yeah, Torvik jokes are fine but he didn’t come up with the stat
I’ve done it, it’s pretty easy. Bump up expected wins by 0.5 for each play in team.
Oh Torvik jokes are fine, but I’m making fun of Izzo- who really has exceeded seed expectations over the last twenty years in a notable way, but he does have 20 losses, not 19. If he gets credit for the tournament streak last year, he gets credited for the loss last year too.
I disagree? If your goal is to determine: “How well does this coach perform compared to how the normal team in their situation does?”, then I don’t see why those two HAVE to be the same? Play-in teams will just have a harder threshold of seed expectations to overcome since they’ll get a built in .5?
Yeah, bumping up expected wins by .5 makes sense to me.
Huh?
yeah huh indeed. that makes no sense
Hate watching en masse?
Only possible explanation, any others would be immediately rejected for implausibility.
Highest rating on BTN in B1G tournament history.
Good point. Most of the more intriguing BTT matchups have been on the weekend, therefore not on BTN.
Heading toward team number 3
Well here you go!
Wait, is this what Ant was referring to? Is Sessoms transferring here?
will he get here in time for Colorado State?
What do you know!
