People really care that he said that stuff? It’s was a super laid back atmosphere, and Hunter is a talker and a fun personality and was responding to questions. It’s not going to help Illinois or hurt Michigan in our game against them 6 months from now
If Juwan ends up getting in a fight with Brad Underpants because of this it will be worth it
Berserk Michigan Coach Threatens Murder…Again
by Crack Gumshoe
I pretty much ascribe to this line of thinking.
My theory is that it bothers fans because there’s no worse feeling than trash talking someone and then losing to them.
Did Hart’s comment really make a difference, or was it more that we made a disastrous coaching change that offseason while MSU had its best coach in the last 50 years?
It’s not like we were kicking butt against everyone other than Sparty during that time, either.
I’m not saying it’s going to be a big deal, but I can confidently say in general that context gets ignored, comments twisted unrecognizably, etc. in situations like these, so I’m not sure the quoted part above matters at all.
I don’t mind trash talk, but Illinois displayed a level of buffoonery at Crisler I’ve rarely seen before (players and coaches.) I would like to see them suffer.
While I don’t think Hunter should have made the comment about the Illini, that’s just outspoken Hunter. He put out some stuff last year about Maryland’s lack of recruiting him and it worked out pretty well that time.
I’m sure Illinois will use it as motivation for the game. The thing is, if he didn’t say that, then they would just use something else to motivate themselves. The replacement value of all bulletin board material is zero.
If you guys think Illinois players are worried about what is said in Ant Wright’s green room, well, I just don’t think that’s the case.
Especially in August.
Seth Davis got asked by a fan who are 3 coaches he’d like to go to Vegas with and his response was interesting. All 3 dudes are quite a bit different from each other I feel like. Also, that part about Juwan being extremely private and inaccessible bears true in recruiting too. His staff ive heard is probably the most difficult to get Information from in the country. Essentially zero leaks ever from the staff and support staff, which is a good thing.
Also side note. In a theoretical world where I’m not a Michigan fan, I can see the Izzo choice. But Beard? Not so much.
Based on other reporters who have done these lists, I’m pretty sure any list that doesn’t have Huggins is objectively wrong.
Ask any coach the top reporters to hang out with and Seth Davis doesn’t show up on any of their lists
My guy apparently just wants a comped trip to Vegas. Izzo is rich and Beard will pay for Whadaburger? For a lead-in that starts with proclaiming the best mailbag question in history, what stupid reasoning for his list!
You can definitely tell from the general mood of the beat reporters who are close to the program that they likely think the same as Davis. But even beyond that, you can just tell in post game interviews how suspicious and reticent Juwan is. Hope he chills out a bit there.
media/free food stereotype exists for good reason…
Do we need to wait for this month’s AMA to get Dylan’s opinion on this? Dylan, who are you taking to Vegas with you?
I wouldn’t be shocked by Howard or Izzo. Does Painter make the cut, too? I guess your list could vary considerably depending on your criteria.
Painter and Huggins would be high up the list for me. I’ve met Painter and he was awesome. Super transparent and very chill. Gave off very easygoing vibes which made it easy to relax and just hang out with him. Bill Self seemed like a guy I’d like to go to Vegas with too personally.
If you had to pick one NCAA coach to back you in a fistfight it would be ____________.
(Hint: he’s in the SEC…)
