I can think of a 10 team football “division” I’d like to see.
There’s a realistic scenario where the SEC is basically the old SEC and the old SWC and the Big Ten is the old Big Ten and the old Big 8.
The Big 10 should just go to 20 and get it over with. Two 10 team divisions and the name isn’t as absurd anymore. I’m intrigued at the possibility of adding West Virginia too.
I have zero interest in WVU. My first choice would be a B1G/Pac-12 alliance
That has nothing to do with living on the west coast does it?
lol it does but there are a lot of me. it’s a reasonable part of the equation!
Thought this was a helpful article:
Am I reading it right, that the B1G’s current deal is worth $440M/yr and the SEC’s brand spankin’ new deal is only worth $300M annually? $2.6B over 6 years? Maybe one includes basketball and the other doesn’t.
Hard to parse from this article (and even this article punts on actually trying to figure it out, saying this agreement could allow the SEC to surpass the Big Ten), but you have to look at Tier 1/2/3 rights in totality.
Why expand at all just because the SEC might? ND and Texas are the only schools that should interest the B10. The rest bring little value and look more like anchors similar to Maryland and Rutgers. I like ISU…but who cares? Kansas has no football and a corrupt basketball program. Baylor is also slimy.
I like the merger with the Pac12 to build joint league. Once you have a 16 team conference, that’s not a conference. That’s a league. So partner with the P12.
Nah BigB you’re one of a kind
So I was trying to find the biggest tv draws in cbb to see if ku may bring a monster enumerated there to justify them. Anyway couldn’t find anything definitive really, but this article says Michigan was the 3rd biggest draw in 2019. I found that interesting.
Yeah whatever googling I was able to do really didn’t return a lot that was especially clarifying, this was the best. Which is saying something. Still though, seems like $10-15M a year is at stake moving from a meh conference to a good one though. If that’s the difference between high earning and average schools, can see why there’s likely few targets that make a lot of sense for the B1G. Perhaps enough to get to 18 schools from 14? Maybe 20 if they got both USC and UCLA?
Bodes really well for our NIL
Also speaks to the fact that while msu loves to make fun of crisler attendance and our lack of bball fans it actually likely has more to do with ums fan base being super spread out and national. Um still has a humongous basketball fan base.
Ugh, I don’t want any more teams in the league. 14 already creates enough scheduling headaches. KU only brings in basketball and not really anything else. ISU doesn’t add anything except give Iowa a rivalry game … which it already plays.
Even if that’s not true, for our own sanity let’s all make believe.
Once we passed 12, the logic of getting to 20 is clear – we can have two ``divisions’’ that are roughly equivalent to conferences and start playing reasonable schedules again. So let’s get it done already. Whatever it is is what it’s going to be. Poach UVa and UNC if you can, or don’t. Just do something already and let’s be done with this.
Yeah the scheduling for football is beyond dumb rn. 20 makes basketball pretty nightmarish though. I guess could do divisions in both?
Like i said keep football separate. Maybe do a tournament for basketball though, I think that would be a blast.
But then you’d never play teams in the other division. RIP Little Brown Jug.
