If M can’t beat MSU at home I’ll be a little bummed. Still will ride that this msu team is just good and isn’t and can’t be great

great defensive play by Walker

The last two minutes of this game has taken FOREVER

Izzo gets to use a 2 minute review and then gets to call a full timeout smh. Gotta stop letting the players stand by the bench during reviews or take some TOs from these power crazy coaches

How does Baker have no points.

yeah keeping the players away from the bench seems like such an obvious fix

Saw this on another message board this morning. I absolutely agree with this sentiment AND with the MD fans! “Izzo went off on another of his angry man rants during the MSU MD game… the crowd not too pleased started chanting “F*** you Izzo” over and over… and honestly, I don’t blame them one bit!” The man just goes WAY over the top!

Sure he does because he can. Officials are straight up fearful of him. Boroski will take crap from him and give it back but rarely will go to the extent of giving him a technical. He’s the modern day Bobby Knight and yes I do wish Michigan would get the type of whistle Izzo’s teams get.

Refs used to tell coaches to shut up or get a T. They don’t have to engage him after every call like they do.

I agree. I DO think the world has changed, though, and I think part of why officials are intimidated so much by Izzo, putting up with so much of his WAY over the top behavior, is they know they will be penalized if they don’t. I have often said, “I would just ignore him. I’d just block him out and I would NEVER go over and talk to him. If he called me over, as if he’s “entitled” to, I’d totally ignore him.” But that’s easy for me to say since I’m not out there officiating B1G games, and, frankly, if I WERE a B1G official and I “handled” Izzo the way I wanted to, the way most opposing fans wish that he would be treated, I probably wouldn’t be officiating in the B1G for long. I really think it’s sad that he is able to effect outcomes because he can “get away” with behavior that normally wouldn’t be acceptable.

Good points. To me, the injustice is not just letting Izzo be Izzo, but the disparate treatment accorded to the level headed coaches who get T’d up for far less. Bo Ryan had the same deal with the refs.

Working the refs is part of a coach’s job. Many do it in ways more subtle, and many don’t do it enough, but until the refs stop rewarding that behavior we should expect it to continue. It’s the refs’ fault, not Izzo’s, IMO.

It’s really weird though I can see coaches get angry eg I saw Jay Wright get really upset with a call. A couple minutes later he was composed and let it go. Izzo goes from 0 to 100 and doesn’t let it go. Bobby Hurley is another guy but because he doesn’t win they just think he’s a lunatic.

Oh, I do think it’s Izzo’s fault that he often acts like…well, my wife hates it when I call anyone an idiot, so I won’t…but you understand where I’m going with this! I also think it, allowing him to do it, comes from above the refs. I can’t imagine any of them enjoy putting up with Izzo’s ire and his vicious looks! But then, I can’t understand how his players can, either. That’s my biggest criticism of Tom, maybe my only one, he really is a heckuva coach. (I wanted to use a different word but I’m tired of having to wait for “approval” when I use certain, really very innocuous, words)

Yeah. They’ve all got their own style. It’ll be interesting to see how Juwan emerges there. He’s got such gravitas in the basketball community. Should be an asset.

And yet, Juwan may have more techs over the last few years than Izzo who seemingly can act in a totally outrageous manner and not get them. Do you think some of it might be that Juwan is such a big and imposing figure at 6’9 and Izzo is such a little sht? By the way, full disclosure, I’m a little guy, too, and some probably think I’m a "little sht," too, though no one on here of course!

Looking ahead for Michigan… games against Iowa seem like they will be really key for bubble standing. Iowa’s resume is not particularly impressive but they have a lot of easy games left (2x NEB, at MD, MN, NW) and they should get up to around .500 based on those games… should still be a Q1 type game maybe even at home.
