I think I agree. As things are, your (the fan’s) feelings about Michigan winning the B1G regular season championship on winning %, despite playing fewer games than Illinois and losing the sole head-to-head in embarrassing fashion, are what they are – either bothered or unbothered. If you are bothered, then a replay gives a chance to right those feelings with a win, whereas a loss doesn’t really change anything and at worst reinforces that Illinois and Illinois-esque teams are a bad matchup for Michigan.
My only reservation is I want the B1G tourney banner, and avoiding Illinois is M’s best chance at getting it. So if some other B1G team happens to take care of them before Sunday (as has already happened 4 times, which Illinois fans seem to forget), then I’d be pretty happy.
If you could guarantee me the BTT title, then I’d definitely want to play Illinois. But without knowing that, I’m cool with not playing them. I think they just might be a bad matchup for us - and I’d hate end up 0-2 against them.
The Johnson missed FT to immediate Minnesota turnover was something else. Then Minnesota seemingly intentionally fouled Geo Baker25 feet from the basket with 11 seconds on the shot clock? It was either intentional or the worst defense I’ve ever seen
