And Gonzaga, Paul VI and the rest of the WCAC. And Baltimore too!
They would be insane. They could have caved to their fan base. John Beilein would have inexplicably not gone over well with their fan base, which seems bonkers with this reported list.
So Inside The Hall has a coaching candidate profile for Dana Altman. Are they insane? No way heâs leaving Phil Knightâs warm embrace.
If Indiana doesnât want an another Sampson type of coach, they wouldnât be looking at Altman
Unless Iâm forgetting something, Sampson didnât really do anything all that bad or morally at all wrong. Altman canât claim that. All Sampson did was make a few extra phone calls. Iâm not sure he could qualify as slimy by either the Will Wade definition or the Dana Altman definition.
Had Indiana not forced him out, itâs interesting to think where they are as a program.
Dana Altman is a piece of garbage, too. Makes Izzoâs handling of rape look heroic by comparison.
I think theyâd be pretty delighted to get a two seed, for one.
RE: Beilein - yes, heâs a better coach than any of the guys hired, certainly with a proven track record.
He is also 68 years old. That is not a non-factor at all. I think some of us were kind of hoping that a guy like Yaklich could stay with the program long enough to be groomed to replace him back when we thought he would retire out of our job.
You certainly canât count on ten quality years from him, which means that youâre redoing a coaching search in 5-8. And Beilein isnât a hotshot recruiter, which means it probably takes him a couple of years to get the program where he wants it.
Heâd probably be a better choice than what Indiana is looking at, but I can at least understand hoping for a guy that will last a lot longer.
My point was if Indiana doesnât want to get into trouble with NCAA scandals, they would steer clear away from guys like Altman, Wade, etc.
Sampsonâs problems were much deeper than the extra phone calls.
could be a rough season for Rutgers ahead
Kinda sucks for Rutgers, but Omoruyi should step in nicely. Iâm guessing theyâll be in the portal for a backup though. The only other option is some sophomore ranked around 400 as a recruit who didnât play last year. Backup minutes could be rough.
Oof yeah, I thought Young was a junior. Gonna be almost zero shot creation unless an unknown variable comes into play.
Johnson transferring is interesting. Probably means their seniors and even Harper could be gone. Or he wants a bigger offensive role lol
Heâs an engineering major from California. Maybe he just wants to get his masters closer to home.
He should go to Caltech and be the Wilt Chamberlain of their rec league.
I believe Cal Tech does have a very low division basketball team; I think my alma mater played them. My alma mater is a youâve-never-heard-of-it church college that played in a division 2 of something called the NCCAA (I had to look it up and I went to the school. Theyâve since moved up to Division 1).
So Cal Tech has a program of some kind. Heâd have to give up a scholarship, though. But playing the computer on easy is fun, so maybe he should give it a shot.
Cal Tech is a great school with an outstanding engineering program but itâs not better than Stanford, and at Stanford he wouldnât have to play in a rec league. Hey, do they even have a rec league at Cal Tech??!? Actually USC and UCLA have excellent programs, too, and theyâre closer to his home in Long Beach, if thatâs a consideration. Lots of great choices!
Edit:. Oops I didnât read stephenâs comment about a lower division basketball program at Cal Tech.
Edit:. OK, so I looked them up. They are DIII so no athletic scholarships. Since I coached in DIII for a bit, I can tell you it is completely different than DI! Great young men, dedicated to their academics. Good but certainly not great players, usually not as big nor nearly as athletic as what Myles is used to. He would DOMINATE, and heâd pretty much tower over everyone at 6â11. So yeah, he really would be the Wilt Chamberlain of Cal Tech! I still think he should come to Michigan. Weâve got a great engineering school and what big man wouldnât want to play for Coach Juwan?!?
Honestly Miles seems like a great kid and I wish him well, but I have never been impressed with his game. He gets blocks but he is a foul magnet, has stone hands, canât shoot at all, and isnât a post player. I think he would do well at Stanford with the young talent they are bringing in to solidify the middle and take advantage of a conference that isnât going to throw an all conference seven footer at him every game.
not a good look from Gard here IMO
