Don’t think it is about yelling at players as much as it is about disguising play calls and stuff too. Don’t want that stuff easily picked up on film.
In general it would just feel a bit weird with no noise. Coaches don’t want to give away their strategies, players feel awkward about yelling in an empty arena, you could hear the players on the bench clearly. The white noise to cover that all up is really better for everyone.
Yeah in general I think the white noise is the only solution, and I’d be curious to hear it with my own ears in the gym. The free throw comment was made in jest, but it’s the only time I’ve thought to myself that it was unnatural as a viewer
I didn’t play basketball in high school or anything so I have no point of reference, but it has always struck me that the complete silence before free throws might be more unnerving than anything. I think I personally would get way more nervous suddenly being aware that everyone in the building was watching me.
I laughed in the UCF game when the defence switched from zone to man and Juwan (or someone from the bench) was screaming Horns so loudly that you might have been able to hear it if you’d been strolling along Stadium Blvd.
I’ve gotta believe there are rules against doing it for only one team so that unfair advantages aren’t created. It would get messy IMO if teams could just do whatever they wanted.
Anyone ever attend an EMU home game? Cameron last night was even quieter than that.
In my experience, Bowen Field House was a better atmosphere than the Convocation Center. Watching EMU upset Wisky at Bowen was one of the better in-game experiences I’ve ever had.
That was right at the end of the Ben Braun era, and EMU was able to use that success to get a new arena built. The school replaced an old barn on campus with a sterile facility off campus, but they were unable to find their next Braun and never achieved the same success. On campus kids didn’t walk off campus to attend the games, and commuters found it easier to drive right past or in the opposite direction of the Convocation Center.
Maryland looks entirely incompetent against this Clemson ballclub.
Clemson defense is legit. Maryland offense is not.
Yeah, dribble penetration is NOT happening for Maryland’s players. Tenacious on-ball defense.
Maryland looking VERY stinky at both ends
Where were all the Four Factor graphs for last night’s games?! JK
Clemson ended up winning by 16. Much better 2H for Maryland but their 3-guard starting backcourt went a combined 7/28.
I think we could learn a lot about the true quality of Indiana tonight.
Florida State is defeating Indiana University by a score of 47-44 with 12 minutes to go in the second half.
Not only does Lander not look like the best freshman in the Big Ten, he’s not even in the top 5.
Scottie Barnes
Still bummed Michigan never gained any traction in his recruitment despite the connections there
