Do you think a freshman PG who hasn’t played a lot of PG will be ready to run the team and have Izzo trust him to play that many minutes?
I love Akins and think he has a ton of potential, but he doesn’t play PG for Sunrise and didn’t really play a ton of PG in AAU so against better competition he has largely been a 2. Seems like a big ask to have him play 25 mins as a freshman.
Like I said above, I think that what this offseason looks like will really shape how ready guys are to play early. This will be big for Michigan too.
What does the summer schedule look like for incoming freshmen? Learning how your new college team operates is way more important (IMO) than what you are doing in HS.
The important thing for MSU is that next year I think they are actually building toward something. Playing young guys who can end up really good and probably aren’t one and done. This year… I’m not really sure what that is. There aren’t many guys seeing the court that you can look at as fixtures for the next few seasons.
Thank you! I really like Akins too and I think he has a chance to be a special player for MSU. But I think he is also a “combo guard” that will need time to develop into a PG (like Watts and Hoggard a bit) and he won’t have the luxury of easing into that role. He needs to walk on campus as a capable PG who can cover at least half the minutes. No pressure kid.
I think they need to find their Mike Smith honestly. Take some pressure off these freshmen and find someone who is truly a PG.
I ventured over to the RCMB thread on Michigan yesterday… gonna go bleach my eyes. I strongly disagree with any take that there is a Michigan message board anywhere close to that level
I just ran quick numbers to get a better picture of who would win the conference based on win% in the likely event of uneven games played. This might be intuitive for others, but basically it comes down to fewest number of losses. If two teams are tied in # of losses, then # of wins would obviously be the tiebreaker. Caveat being the 0.8 and 0.75 win% rows as they can be reached at 16 & 20 games played and 15 & 20 games played respectively.
Basically this clarifies the question of what’s better between, say, 15-4 and 13-3 that you can’t calculate quickly in your head.
You can’t put TJD on 1st team, you just can’t. Have you watched any of his games this year? He’s missing bunnys at the rim consistently, and has not taken the next step like he’s perfectly capable of doing. I realize Archie doesn’t get him the ball as much as he should, which should be basically a touch every possession. But so far he’s not on the A team.
The most dominant big in the B1G is Kofi, he’s your #1 at Center. Put Garza on first team as your 1B Center, positions be damned. With Ayo that’s 3 locks. I’ve given in to Carr on A team for now. The rest of A team is open to debate through the final month of the season.
I find the transfer angle interesting only because Enoch decommits and opens up his recruitment. If a few transfer outs were a lock why would he decommit?? There is no reason to be afraid of Kithier/Sissoko, you can throw Marble in the mix if you want.
