Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Loyer and Hoggard combined 0-8; zero points but 10 assists. Maybe there is a silver lining for MSU somewhere in there.
Good: 82% of baskets assisted for MSU; 18/22
Bad: just about everything else including starters Hall, Bingham and Loyer combining for 3 points.

I knew when I turned off Duke vs MSU after a few minutes that I was watching terrible basketball. Time has confirmed the thought. Duke actually made MSU look decent

Remember guys Kenpom doesn’t matter when evaluating how good Iowa is, it only matters when evaluating how good everyone else is

Kenpom only shows how bad an opponent is, not how good a coach is.

Man @buckets12 , I feel for you. There are lots of us out here who do believe that this Iowa team is better than most in the country (ie top 10). Yeah the pollsters may have been aggressive with the top 5 designations preseason, and they’ve lost some recent games obviously.

This is the best Iowa team of Fran’s tenure. It shouldn’t be judged so heavily on what previous Iowa teams did.

Not playing defense makes you susceptible to an early exit in the tourney, but with such an elite offense…a Final Four isn’t that crazy either.

There, I’ve said it.

The only bad part about State being crappy this year is their fans haven’t been there to suffer in person.

Goes to show you how weak college basketball is talent wise nowadays. Most of these Big Ten games are unwatchable.

Maybe that’s because so few of the good teams have played against each other

weak compared to when? 3 or 5 years ago? No way.

Now is it weaker than 30 years ago when everybody and their brother stayed in school for 3+ years? Definitely.

Feels like it’s been getting steadily weaker talent wise for the last three decades (as opposed to just one sharp drop off.j. More and more early entries over the years. Maybe the transfer rules will boost the better teams.

I think the difference in the quality between the NBA and college crystallized for me without the fans. The fan intensity is the one thing about the games that the NBA can only match in the playoffs.

Coach B cursed in his analysis role on BTN…another crappy game with Nebraskatball vs Pedestrian Staee

It’s all a conspiracy by the Big Ten to show Beilein all the programs he should try to turn around. Clearly

I didn’t know if he was cut out to be an analyst but he’s been really good. He doesn’t dumb it down for the audience.

Penn states already thin tournament chances are on the line. Down 7 at home to Nebraska

I find myself rooting for the Huskers even though they broke my heart last time out. They deserve to get a W at some point.

I would have been happier with a win over Illinois. But good for them if they can pull off a win today.

Hopefully this means PSU comes out more motivated vs OSU?

Also I’d say despite the condensed schedule and long layoff, Nebraska is playing definitely better post COVID. In 5 games before their long layoff they were 0-5 in B1G games, losing by an average margin of 15.2 PPG to teams with an average Torvik ranking of 26.8. They had 3 home games vs 2 away games in that stretch.

Post layoff they’re 0-4 so far losing by an average of 12 PPG to teams an average Torvik ranking of 30. So far they’ve played 2 home games and 2 away games, with the current game an away one. Plus they’re now up 5 with 5 minutes to go @ #35 PSU, so that average losing margin is going down even if Nebraska doesn’t pull this off.
