2024 Olympic Basketball

Genuinely not sure how this thread keeps going  Might be the longest running thread on the board that Iā€™ve struggled to read.

At least now we are closer to college hoopsā€¦

I thought the new draft twitter trend is that AJD isnā€™t actually the best '25, not that AJD is better than Flagg.

National team basketball never dies

The Dybantsa stuff really varies. He has the measureables and the ā€œauraā€. He looks like heā€™s going to be an elite basketball player and has the style of an elite basketball player. So people who care about that put him 1

He also played up an age group while Boozer and Flagg didnā€™t

Dybantsa is older than Boozer right?

Iā€™m not saying Dybantsa isnā€™t good, just that the narrative I see with the contrarian draft people on Twitter is that some others in the class are being overlooked.

Yes, heā€™s older. By a bit, but younger a bit than Flagg. He was playing at the oldest EYBL level while Flagg and Boozer were playing the lower level, IIRC

Yeah, Flagg never played 17s because he played his age group then reclassed.

Boozer played his age group at 16s and then played his age group at 17s this yearā€¦ I think he lost like 1 or 2 games in two summers.

Flagg never played 17s is going to be something that people talk about for another 90 days, then heā€™ll play playing college hoops  I donā€™t see it mattering. The fact that heā€™s going to turn 18 during December of his freshman year is relevant to what happens this year in some regards though.

I donā€™t think whether someone played up or not in 2023 is going to really shape them either way. Boozer is also 6 months younger than Dybansta so ā€œplaying upā€ would have been even more extreme.

(Also both Flagg and Boozer obviously played with siblings which is another pretty obvious reason to play at your age group)

Overall though, I was just saying Iā€™ve heard more Boozer is better than Dybansta talk (and holy shit Nate Ament) than AJD is better than Flagg. (Obviously, different archetypes, so the whole convo is a bit silly.)

Hmm you definitely mostly wade in the contrarian world then. The ā€œmainstreamsā€ have all pretty much crowned Dybantsa. I personally like Boozer more and the guys I trust like Boozer but a majority of people have landed on Dybantsa

Yeah, very much a contrarian draft twitter whatever take. I know that Dybansta is the ā€œNo. 1 guy in the classā€ etc., I just have seen more what about Boozer than AJ > Cooper talk.

Most exciting thing about Cooper, IMO, is that the sport is better when Duke has a star and is relevant.

That sort of big name star intrigue has been lacking the last few years. A reason for national media to talk about the sport.

Pooper Flagg

There was an ESPN piece a few weeks ago coming out of Peach Jam that completely left Boozer out of the convo when discussing The Next Big Thing bc Tyran Stokes is it now?

Itā€™s weird.

Have only seen Flagg play so I donā€™t have an opinion on the other guys. Just glad weā€™re getting into hype cycles again after everyone being very down on the last few. Hype is fun!

oh heā€™s finished

Emoni Bates was probably the latest generation prospect :grimacing:

Letā€™s hope Flagg and Dybantsa donā€™t turn out like that
