I think Banchero might be the best on the team by then

I’d be shocked if Jalen Brunson is on the team

If Flagg is as good as the hype, he should be on the team. He’s already on the select team and was considered to be the best player.

It’ll be interesting to see who is going to be the role player of the team like Book, White, Jrue. That’s the biggest question from this projection.

Why is that?

Reed Sheppard! For my money

He was definitely not the best player there. He looked like a kid playing with adults. Talented kid, but he’ll absolutely need some time.

He was voted as the best player on the select team by his own peers: LeBron James, Cooper Flagg Headline Team USA Voting Polls at Olympic Training Camp & LeBron James voted best Team USA player in Olympic training camp - The Athletic

He’s a smallish PG who is a bit of a ball-dominant. Will be 32 by '28 Olympics so he may not be as good as he is right now

Oh on the Select team? Even then, whatever. I watched him play. It’s like I said, kid among adults. Amen Thompson is a considerably better athlete rn, bc ofc he is. Guy might be the best athlete in the NBA. Almost all of them are probably better basketball players and athletes. And, like, ofc that would be true. They’re 4+ years older than him.

Will add, the intensity of those scrimmages was pretty meh from what I saw.

Flagg’s gonna be dope for all kinds of reasons but I’m fairly confident there was nothing special about his appearance in those scrimmages. But everyone there I’m sure thought Flagg looked impressive adjusting for age.

The thing is they’re not basing it on the scrimmage. The players voted him the best player on the team, not because he’s good for his age. Yes, he needs to get stronger, but the fact he is voted as the best player on the team is very notable. I would be surprised if he’s not on the '28 team.

I also watched the scrimmage, but that’s such a small snapshot of what the public is seeing compared to the players who have gone against him.

I guess this makes me think of another question/point…

Do we think Cooper Flagg is a generational prospect? I lean towards yes

What @guest said. Only thing to add is he was bad at the World Cup. Which I just think showed his archetype isn’t the best. Also there’s 0 percent chance his stock is as high in 4 years as it is now. I highly doubt he strings together 4 seasons more like he just did

If he does than maybe at that point you have to give him another shot

Personally I have a hard time imagining Flagg was actually the best player in a group filled with lottery picks with nba experience. If that’s true he will win NCAA POY easily. So we can revisit it in a few months

Not saying Flagg can’t make it, he’s certainly in a group with a bunch of the other young guys. It’s just really hard for me to imagine he is better than Miller, Smith, Jacquez, Duren, Pritchard, Podz, et all right now at this moment. Pritchard got minutes for the best team in the nba!

I don’t think he’s generational. Generational are reserved for players like LBJ and Wemby. They come along every 17-18 years.

It’s a silly straw poll. They can base it on whatever. But the tape showed a kid among adults. He’s not even 18, there’s nothing wrong with that.

I think there’s a tier of prospects a step down from generational like Zion, AD, KAT, Luka, etc that come along every 3-5 years and are pretty much instantly good players in the NBA by the time they’re 20. They just aren’t MJ/Kareem/LeBron.

Wemby is the latter, Flagg prob the former. But hey, we’ll see!

It’s probably really hard to tell given the comp he’s played to date?

My super interesting opinion is “we’ll see”

I have a heard a few people say they think Dybansa is better, which who knows, but if so, hardly makes him generational

Don’t listen to the Dybantsa truthers!
