2024 Olympic Basketball

Chet is pretty clearly the best big in the league under 24 not named Wemby and his game is very well suited for FIBA ball.

I don’t know how good he’ll end up being but as good as Bam is a bar he’s already nearly clearing.

I think it’s going to be vastly more obvious in 4 years who we’ll want on that team. We have a group of like 20 guys you could probably guess will yield the best 5-10 players but there’s kind of a dip in talent between the group of older millennials and the next group who will be getting All NBA 5+ years from now.

I think Ant is very obviously in the starting 5 a year from now if not the guy

And yes that means our best guy is probably the 4th or 5th best guy in the tournament

If Ant improves his offense like you’d expect he’s gonna be awesome.

If he doesn’t I might go bald watching that.

Would Booker and Ant both start? D Book was kinda awesome this Olympics

The fully developed version of Cade would be a great fit in FIBA play imo. Big guard who can hit mid range jumpers and get to the basket.

Edwards is a far better two way player than Booker

I think limiting the evaluation to these 6 games is probably not that useful - over the last 240+ NBA games, Edwards is the best American two guard in the league

Hard to discuss starters 4 years out lol. Booker was bad in Tokyo fwiw so this was redemption for him.

Definitely a lot is going to change in the next 4 years. I’d suspect there are a few guys that aren’t super obvious now that will emerge as easy picks.

He also has played Wemby in FIBA already!

And yeah of all the young Americans I’d probably feel most confident in penciling him in. Very likely could be all nba level in 4 years

Tyrese Maxey potentially

Yeah Maxey is up there for sure. I’ve got him on my current 2028 roster prediction

If you’re Grant Hill I think you probably want a good chunk of these guys to play in the WC to get up to speed.

Jalen Williams could be a sneaky good in like 4 years? Definitely a long shot, but trying to think of not commonly thought of dudes

Honestly if Reed Sheppard blows up he’d be the ideal Jrue Holiday replacement for good role/glue guy

This is a fun exercise

Will there be room for Emoni Bates on the team?

Jalen Williams is sneaky good now haha. He definitely could be an obvious pick.

Fwiw this is my preliminary prediction

Hali
Ant
Booker
Paolo
Chet
Jalen Williams
Maxey
JJJ
Herb Jones
Keegan Murray
Lively
Jalen Johnson

Tatum obviously could slot in if he wants

Keegan, Jalen Johnson, and Lively all over Cade is kind of crazy not gonna lie lol

And give me my young bulls of Dybantsa and Flagg :triumph:

Wouldn’t mind throwing in Scottie Barnes as well

While it’s a considerable skill, the only area Kessler outperforms Duren is in shot-blocking.

Last summer he got a lot of buzz as being one of the best guys out there for their camp.

His footwork was the thing that impressed me the most about him this past season. He has the athleticism to be a much better shot-blocker than he showed most of the season. I got pretty excited about him blocking 4 shots in the opener at Miami but he only had 4 or more blocks two more times the rest of the season. He also sprained his ankle early on, so that may have had something to do with the diminishing returns.

I’m hoping that the new coaching staff can improve everybody’s defense this season. Ausar was the only defensive stud out there. Stew was a plus but not a lockdown guy.

Back to the Olympics, I’m bummed that the Wagners didn’t medal.

I don’t think Kessler is great but that shot blocking is why he would have a chance though. Probably as a 3rd big that wouldn’t play but for certain situations.
