I think the problem with that is the FO that cedes the responsibility more than Lebron. Lots of players I’m sure have takes that don’t get indulged!
It may not be popular here, but Pelinka’s accomplishments are basically tied to “works for the Lakers” and when he had to use his own discretion it’s nearly always a disaster
Being the Lakers GM may have been tough in (the first chunk of) Jerry West’s day since there wasn’t unrestricted free-agency until 1988. But after that, it’s been pretty cushy. You’re at least starting on 2nd base, if not 3rd.
tbf he did request a trade (according to wikipedia, either to LA or the knicks, though he might’ve preferred the knicks). getting guys to request trades to your city is pretty similar to signing them in FA on this specific point, i guess
