Lol come again?

K losing his Cameron finale and then the first ever UNC-Duke tournament game to close his career is HILARIOUS. I was feeling like a terrible human being for enjoying the Gonzaga upset and setting us all up for an unspeakable outcome. What a glorious reprieve.

LOL a random alternate reality I’m imagining with them at Michigan :joy:

I forgot there was another game. I was watching the post-game waiting to see which Michigan highlights would be in the “One Shining Moment” montage.

As they say, the semi final games are usually much better than the final.

I hope Hunter talking junk to the Tennessee cheerleaders makes it in.

If UNC wins Monday, Steve Fisher will no longer be the only first-year coach to win it all. I’ve enjoyed us having that talking point (they brought it up again last night). So I guess I’d want KU to win, but, ugh, it’s KU…

If UNC wins they will have by far the worst AdjD in the KenPom era.

This is a good call. And there are the obvious parallels of Hubert basically being Juwan 2.0. The more teams that replicate that model I am okay with because I think it’s more likely that us and UNC have struck lightning in a bottle than it being some great hiring practice.

Feel like it’s not a fair comparison tbh. Schools like UNC and Kentucky exist on a different playing field from the rest of the programs in the sport. I mean, he’s done an outstanding job but that UNC team is filled to the brim with size, athleticism, and raw talent all over the roster.

I thought Banchero had another typical Banchero game – he produced but without using that great handle of his to get around anyone or that great physique of his to finish through someone. Manek stoned him four times, if I have it right. Didn’t make a shot last 6-7 minutes of the game. Good game, but they’ll be bigger stronger and longer in the NBA.

I totally agree with this but it seems that he’s done an outstanding job with that UNC team in the last half of the season.

I hadn’t followed them all that closely this year, but weren’t they considered a bubble team not all that long ago? (Which seems foolish looking at their schedule, but that’s what I remember. Perhaps that might have been a product of a seemingly weak ACC which turned out to be - maybe not the case.) They were 12-6 at the end of January coming off two blowout losses to Miami and Wake. They then strung together three wins over some dregs of the ACC, and proceeded to manage an OT road win (Louisville) and a two-point road win (Clemson) sandwiched around a blowout loss at home to Duke.
But since that ugly loss to Pitt they have been on fire.

I mean, they kind of remind me of Michigan’s runner-up teams. Solid play with a number of losses plus a stinker thrown in for good measure but then get hot down the stretch.

I guess my question is, how did UNC get into a position to even need to be on fire down the stretch? Their starters’ high school rankings were #14 (Love), 27 (Bacot), 50 (Davis), 71 (Black), and 117 (Manek, who, to me, has been the wildcard in this run for them). Maybe there was something about what someone said earlier about losing Garcia being addition by subtraction.

I think you’re right to a degree, but it seems like college coaching is in some large part marketing - to recruits, parents, and increasingly your own players. Coming off missing the tournament, then having a pretty forgettable year followed Kessler and Sharpe bouncing, Roy Williams sort of rage quitting…Davis definitely inherited some bad vibes. Any transition brings some bumps, but if you think about where this program was in the week where Kessler left and Williams quit (a little less than a year ago?) to now…

Yeah man - I think it’s some combination of discomfort around guys his size (he’s also horrific defending anyone his size) and being somewhat unselfish, potentially to his own (and his teams) detriment…he has some stuff to learn.

OK, this may not belong here because it refers to the women’s tournament, but my wife and I are playing a drinking game while we watch. Every time an announcer says “Aliyah Boston” we take a drink. My wife is passed out on the floor and my daughter had to write this post on my phone because I can’t see the keys! :grinning::wine_glass::grinning:

My wife just reminded me of tonight’s game and said we need to figure out our “game snacks” and our drinking game for tonight! She’s running low (almost out) of her chocolate wine that she drank last night so she asked me to research good “popcorn wine!” I wonder what game we’ll think of to play tonight…and how much fun we’ll have…and whether we’ll still be standing by the time the game ends!

Any ideas for “good” popcorn wine? OK, I know… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can I come to the Silverblue house to watch the game? It looks a lot more fun than what my house will be like at 10:48 p.m.

How about this: Every time some announcer says something to the effect that North Carolina ended Mike Kyzyzewski’s career, take a shot.

He’ll be dead five minutes into the pregame show!
