2022 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

I see what you did there. I think we’re going to have a good game against Villanova but we’ll have to outscore them. Should we get past them I’d much rather face Houston though both teams would be really tough as they are essentially two of the three most efficient teams per Kenpom. I just think Houston has less margin for error given their depth issues though obviously their starters are fantastic. We have a path but it is a tough one but really glad the team has the opportunity.

And down goes Gonzaga

Yeah Mark Few might be one of those dudes we talk about in 20 years and say “can’t believe he never won a chip”

I’m just tired of Gonzaga. Join a real conference already, Zags.

Exactly. What would their record be if they had 10 BiG road contests?

They keep getting the top seed off the back of an inflated win record, thereby getting easier draws every year. It’s kind of ridiculous tbh.

I really hope so

How fun would it be if Duke set a record for lowest point total in Sweet 16 history?

They are on their way so far. They look as tight as we were.

They beat Texas, ucla, Texas tech, San Francisco 3 times, Saint Mary’s twice. They earned their seed.

I mean probably still good

OK? Still, the possibility of them being a 2, 3 seed is much higher if they have a tougher conference schedule. Instead they get to coast as the number 1 overall seed every season.

They aren’t the number one overall every year are they?

They have been the past two years

That sounds right ok.

You got me, just the number 1 overall for the second year in a row and number 1 for however many years in the past 6.

I mean they were the runner up last year. Hard to argue they didn’t deserve that. They lost one game all year.
I just looked at their resume this year and can’t see where you could poke holes in it.

They play some tough games, yes, but a lot more games against garbage opponents. It’s probably easier to win some of those big games when you’ve got a bunch of cupcakes spaced in between. They don’t have to go through the grind that power conference teams do.

Also, my understanding is that Few has an awful record against high seeds in the tournament.

You could also argue in a bigger conference he would have more opportunities for big wins.
