2022 NBA Draft Discussion

FWIW I think a lot folks put too much stock in “upside” when most drafts have, what, 2? guys who will be top 30 guys in the NBA at their peak? So few in the projected lottery actually have it in their outcomes and focusing on upside that isn’t actually there I think distorts boards in a bad way.

Would have to be more than 2, unless we are considering a 15 year career span normal.

yeah, I wonder how long careers are for guys who are considered top 30 at any point in their career.

oh, except I guess this means they’d be top 30 for their whole career, which (usually) isn’t the case and means it’s probably more than two guys per draft, right?

Chet isn’t an unicorn IMO. To me, he’s an oversized big who can shoot from PF with an occasional appearance at the 5.

I respect that opinion. He makes unicorn for me for stuff like this

Bigs aren’t supposed to ever do that

Drummond with defensive instincts + a 3 point shot would have been a perennial all star

doesn’t sound like portland is going to trade 7 for Grant

Grant just got traded to Portland for a 2025 1st round pick!!

I don’t really keep up well with the pistons but that’s kinda…bad, right? why so far out?

I’d love it if it was Portland’s 1st, but it looks like it’s Milwaukee’s. Still have to think Bucks will be pretty good

Pistons Trade:

Grant
#46

for

#36
2025 MIL 1st
2025 2nd Rounder
2026 2nd Rounder

Horrible return. Just a bunch of trade fillers basically.

10 spots in the second. Plus a first. Plus two seconds. Doesn’t sound bad to me at all

apparently it opens up 40M in cap space this summer. speculation they might use it to get Ayton…

I have no idea why a team that just had the third worst record in the league is salary dumping to sign the seventh best center in the nba

Make it make sense

I’d rather have them go after Miles Bridges, at least SF’s matter

The odds of any of those amounting to anything valuable is like sub 30% and it’s unlikely any of those something is a rotation-level player on a contender. You should be targeting some killer asset. A quarter is better than 30 pennies in the NBA. And the worst part is you won’t see any of it until your team building is already locked in within the next two years.

That has to be the goal right, signing Ayton or , gulp, Bridges

Centers matter.

yeah i don’t get it either and no legit info saying it’s for Ayton but just explaining that the value of this trade appears to be primarily for the cap space.
