2021 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

Baylor’s gotta feel like the fouls kept them from making the lead insurmountable. Team forced turnovers but got too aggressive and many of their starters had to sit because of it.

Incredible FT show differential.

Think of it as a makeup for the charge call he didn’t deserve. I think he now rightly has 2.

A what?? Decker couldn’t dream of shooting half as well as Kispert

Can’t you get all that at lot of other schools - which aren’t in the middle of nowhere? And you could play meaningful games in January and February too.

Do the zags really recruit like superstars? They’ve only had Suggs and soon to be Holmgren in terms of high end 5 stars, as far as I know…

Not until this year really.

Baylor guards are fun to watch. Gonzaga hasn’t seen that all year

I dont follow. Just making it clear I do think the Zags are the better team overall so we’d have to play an above average game to take them out.

You said we’d have to play one of our best games but also said “as long as we don’t” play like we did against UCLA. I was just pointing out there’s a big gap between those 2 things.

Mudflaps hockey hair is gonna go off from 3 in the 2nd half, and the camera is going to find his little mudflap brother cheering him on in the crowd. Calling it

I don’t think location is necessarily that big of a deal for a college basketball program. Sure, being in a hotbed of talent is nice, but rosters are small enough that you only need a few players to put together a contender. It’s not like football where unless you’re one of ten or so national programs you need to build your team in significant part on local talent.

If anything, location matters even less than one would think. Nothing really draws people to Syracuse or to Lawrence or to Lexington, but nobody questions why players would go there.

Gonzaga has a conference issue, and Spokane is a longer trip from the Acela corridor than other places, but as uninteresting as it is, guys are going to there to play good basketball.

Kispert has not looked himself from three the last few games.

A conference issue that they zero control of. If the Pac-12 invited them, they would be there in a heartbeat but the Pac-12 won’t because they don’t have a football program and probably doesn’t like the idea of a tiny mid-major showing up their conference.

The thing that appeals the most to the recruits is playing style, player development and their ability to win a bunch of games as well as show up in March Madness. They’re starting to get elite recruits but Gonzaga will still recruit internationally because they’re a well known brand and have track record of developing foreign players. They’re like Nova where they’ll selectively recruit 5* recruits that fits their culture.

Yeah, he’s an average athlete in a vacuum but when compared to these Baylor guards he’s like a statue.
