A lot harder to throw on the run too.

Every time I think, ā€œHey, self, maybe for my next phone I’ll get an iPhone.ā€ Then an Apple commercial comes on and I’m like, ā€œlol, nope.ā€

this game has a STENCH

Grimes to the bench with two fouls. Syracuse needs to go on a run while he’s out.

Unless Syracuse can come back, we’re looking at three SWC teams in the Elite Eight…

The SWC? I feel like they’re known for something. Huh.

My back-of-the-envelope has Cuse with a sparkling .4 ppp at the Under 12. Houston, meanwhile, with 5 OREBs already.

BTW really is a shame that Hinkle is getting all these tourney games, but mostly empty. How fun would it be to attend a neutral-site game there when it’s packed?

I was thinking that as long as they weren’t going to let fans in anyway, they should have had the Final Four at Hinkle. But then when they decided to allow limited fan seating, that probably made that impractical.

But, yes, I’d love to see the NCAA do more games in these on-campus venues. Jim Valvano ran around looking for somebody to hug… at the Pit, in Albuquerque.

Ban the zone

I have Arkansas dudes on reddit telling me it was a great strategy and ā€œgreat defenseā€ to leave non-Obanor/Abmas ORU players wide open from 3 all game. Starting to hope that Baylor blows them out.

Zone defense is all we’ve ever played, and it’s the only thing that’ll work this year. For anything else our boys are too small, but remember, we were 15 and 10 last year, and we got all our boys back but one…

The whole Syracuse concept is weird to me. I understand mastering the zone and becoming good at it. But as a coach you need to understand your matchups, and adapt based on it. Doing it regardless of who you are facing seems a bit lazy to me, and even cocky.
Also, as an AD, wouldn’t you have a conversation with your coach at some point about how many of the top recruits won’t consider you because this prep is basically useless for the NBA. I really don’t understand. Is Boeheim just a legend and does what he wants, and is stubborn. Or is there something I’m not getting?

Did John Beilein leave the inbounder open on a shot in an important game and get second-guessed for weeks, or am I dreaming that?

Evan Turner and Ben Brust I believe, right?

Good call.

He’s won a lot of games doing this. It makes his teams a pain to prepare for, because they’re better at running zone than most teams and have a ton of length. It may be that running the same defenses as everyone else would cause him to lose his trump card. Keep in mind that he’s recruiting to upstate NY where the high school talent probably isn’t that great. It’s like a football program running the triple option.

Speaking of Sampson, I wonder if he showed his squad our 2017 demolition of the Syracuse zone to prep for this game. Seems like they’re working their way around it pretty nicely.

Girard annoys me
