2020 Transfer Market

High ceiling fun player with an assist rate double that of Eli Brooks and a turnover rate lower than any returning guard on Michigan’s roster despite 30% usage.

Poor shooting numbers from the field but 80% from free throw on 5 attempts per game makes me think he’s a good natural shooter.

I’d love McClung.

Bieniemy, McClung, AJ Walker. I’d take any of them.

High Ceiling??

I get I am clearly in the minority here but I am willing to go down with this ship!!

Yeah, I think so. Maybe high-ceiling college player, not pro prospect.

His stats at Georgetown last year would have ranked 1st in scoring, 1st in steals, 2nd in assists and 6th in minutes on Michigan’s team. Dude has been a highly productive, albeit woefully inefficient college player, caveat being that Georgetown was a total mess last year and had multiple games where they played a total of six scholarship players. Hard to gauge what he looks like on a more structured, talented team but I don’t think it would be crazy for usage to go down, efficiency to go up and get 25-30 a game minutes at the 2 from him.

In terms of fit, McClung would be fantastic in a Michigan uniform. Athletic guard that can compromise the defense with penetration, which we don’t have yet on the team (other than Zeb who probably isn’t ready)

Yeah, wow - his shooting numbers are really bad. Georgetown doesn’t run much of an offense tho.

Didn’t watch a ton of Georgetown but surprised that this is a guy people are really excited about. I feel like we’ve talked about a 6-5 3&D type as the roster need quite a bit. McClung would be a third short PG-type player right?

All true!! But he’s a fun guy to watch play. Need some entertainment on the court.

Better than an empty chair but yea

Don’t think anybody has said that a 3&D type is a bigger roster hole than somebody who can create their own offense.

But I do agree he’s not all that exciting

I just think having some kind of bigger guard makes a lot of sense in order to figure out the rotation. Play defense, make threes and be able to handle the ball.

Preferably a transfer with 2 or 3 years of eligibility who is immediately eligible.

I do like the fit better than Kier per se, as I think it’s more important to get a creator than it is to get a 6’5 3&D guy.

However, I think a lot of people are REALLY excited because he was a wildly popular high school player (close to the level that Zion was), probably moreso than Josh Christopher. He’s actually become a better college player than what most recruiting analysts expected too.

Obviously different levels but Kier is really the same caliber of PNR guy (67th percentile on 213 plays) as McClung (67th percentile on 120 plays).

I guess I didn’t factor IG followers or highlights into the equation. Also appears that I’m more worried about Michigan’s perimeter defense than most.

Are people thinking that Mike Smith is going to a) play a lot but b) not handle the ball a lot?

Yuck. Hard pass for me.

The IG followers is why he is so beloved. Lord knows it’s not because he’s particularly good at anything (besides dunking and shooting FTs)

I’ve never seen him play (or heard of him).

Looking at his stats: high usage, inefficient scorer especially inside the arc (but good free throw shooter), great assist to turnover ratio, gets steals, doesn’t foul a lot, not very active on the glass.

I think most would prefer he be a role player rather than someone who will play 30 minutes a game +/-.

Beyond the minutes (who knows how many minutes anyone plays), do people think that U-M should be looking for another PG on the transfer market or a different type of player? Seems a bit odd to want another ball dominant undersized guard.
