lmao… this is a dream scenario, i could see missing out on half of those names at least and then evaluating a jace/zaire from there
we’ve seen it with hardaway, glen and other nba kids sons, they can bloom late. dont get lost in the stars

has to have exceptions. employee discount likely qualifies.
I might be alone in this but I think with Zaire, it would be a legitimate benefit to recruiting to have Dwyane Wade supporting the program
Again, that article I found about McDermott giving up his senior scholarship so it could go to another player says that his parents needed to pay full-price because the 50% cut to which his father’s employment entitled him would have been a violation.
Beyond a scholarship or not, there’s a chance that Jace might just have a better opportunity to get a more significant role somewhere like Dayton. That seems like a bigger issue than the money.
how tough would it be as a Dad to potentially offer your youngest son (Jett), and not extend and offer to older son (Jace)?
As @CoryR said, Calapari’s son that just transferred was a walk on also. It certainly isn’t something that “never happens.”
He also had no division one offers.
My main point is that coach’s kids who can play D1 basketball don’t walk-on to play with their fathers.
If your argument is that this isn’t 1000% true through the course of human history, and an exception exists, I will grant that. I can’t think of a time it’s occurred for a player that plays.
The lack of division 1 offers probably has more to do with common knowledge on where his recruitment would end up. Until about a week ago there was no reason to believe Wade or Howard would have Fathers at other D1 programs so of course they’ll have more offers.
I mean, his dad said in a presser that he suggested Brad go play D-2. Walking in at Kentucky was literally his best offer.
If Howard’s kids can get a scholarship at a mid-major, I’d be surprised they felt the same.
Whatever - this is getting far afield. It’s rare for kids to turn down scholarship offers in order to walk-on. Even if their dad is coach.
below is what I found in NCAA bylaw 15.02.4.2 what counted as Institutional Financial Aid.
“(4) Employee dependent tuition benefits, unless the employee has been employed as a full-time faculty/staff member for a minimum of five years;”
It was McDermott 4th year at Creighton when Doug gave up his scholarship so Greg has to pay the full tuition. By the rule, Jace and Jett cannot use it until 2024.
To be fair, Juwan Howard has plenty of money if he wanted to pay for Jace to walk-on without an employee discount.
There also could be a lot of open scholarships next year so maybe Jace makes sense as an addition due to his relationships with other kids on the circuit. Or maybe he wants to prove his ability to play a bigger role at a MM or MM+. Or maybe he has a huge July and lands some more offers, who knows.
can a coach’s son show up at voluntary practices and shoot arounds? if i were a young kid, id be looking to scrimmage with guys better than me all the time. if he is living in AA/going to ypsi for high school, is this against the rules (to play ball with guys currently on roster/workout with sanderson)?
I can’t imagine a world where this is allowed. Surely that would be a violation to workout with Sanderson and participate in open gyms.
Has Isaiah Jackson as our must get, does say at first have to wait and see what type of recruit JH goes after.
Not who I would put at the top of Michigan’s wish list. Not because he isn’t a good player but because I think a guard or wing could make a significantly bigger impact.
Yeah, hard for me to consider Jackson or any recruit a must get when we have no idea what kind of system Howard prefers to run or what kind of players he targets
I don’t think he’s most important, but I do think it’ll be interesting to see if Michigan tries to get involved there just because it’s The Family and a Detroit kid.
I would have said before we didn’t have much of a chance with Isaiah Jackson just because he didn’t really seem like a Beilein type of big and there didn’t seem to be a ton of mutual interest but now that we have Howard I’m sure Jackson will see us a lot differently. Same thing with a lot of top of the line bigs in the country.
Going to be interesting to follow the offers that follow and in particular if Juwan gets some kids on campus for visits over the next month or two.
Random question, does anyone know when the Elite Camp is? Hoping that is used to get recruits in.
