2020 - F - Isaiah Todd (Commit)

What’s a reasonable on-court statistical projection for Todd next year?

Where do we see his basketball IQ?

Well put. This seems like an efficiency discussion rather than a skills discussion.

What kind of teammate is he? Will he be ok if someone else like JC / FW take more shots than he does?

What positions is he projected to best be able to guard?

Mo Taylor?

Maybe watching too much of him has clouded my judgement, but I don’t think he necessarily passes or dribbles with obvious skill as you mention. My definition of raw was probably someone who isn’t as good as their size/athleticism/highlights would indicate. Yes, he absolutely has the ability to make a flashy dribble or pass and it seems like he’s worked on those his entire life. Fundamentally though, you don’t want to see him putting the ball on the floor a lot, especially on the perimeter, as he has a loose handle. His timing/power/decisions on his passes can be off too, but perhaps that’s product of me critiquing too much.

My opinion is that Howard needs to get Todd to simplify his game. All the extracurricular stuff: turnaround fadeaway jumpers, step-backs, flashing dribbling that he does won’t get him to the NBA, particularly because they were very inefficient in high school and won’t all of the sudden improve drastically in his freshman year of college. What will get him to the league is if he shoots threes efficiently, cuts hard to the basket, finishes efficiently, and plays great defense. That’s all he needs to do to be a fantastic player given his length and athleticism.

Not that I know him personally, but he seems like a fantastic young dude and a great teammate. If JC is an alpha dog, Isaiah can be his sidekick.

In terms of shots, there’s guys on his HS team that sometimes take more shots than he does. Also, when he plays with higher level players in the summer, he often seems like the player that receives the least usage, and so I would guess he’ll be fine with playing within his role a bit more than other guys around his ranking.

Edit: on another note, do we know when the final rankings for 2020 recruits come out?

What does an efficient version of Todd look like on offense? Is he catching and facing up, setting ball screens?

As for non-Michigan players, he reminds me of Rashard Lewis.

it says a lot about the quality on this site that the thing I’m looking forward to most this week is a breakdown of an 18-year old ballplayer… you da man

To be fair, it is tough to find things to look forward to these days.

Someone accidentally posted it in the Christopher thread instead, but Todd no longer has Michigan commit in his Twitter bio. According to Way back machine he had it in there as of Jan 1 2020.

Somebody’s leaving soon

Apparently Todd removed Michigan commit from Twitter.

Didn’t know it was ever on his bio, but can confirm it’s not there now

I thought it was, but then again I am no Twitter expert.

Yes I am almost positive it was before. I just looked and now there is literally a broken heart where U of M commit used to be

His Instagram bio is also just a broken heart now. I don’t recall seeing that before…

Edit: shoot sorry this is the Christopher thread. Meant to post it in the Todd thread
