I can’t believe this much is up in the air a month before the season starts. Seems crazy with the amount of time CBB has had to plan.
The NCAA just serves no purpose if they can’t even organize this
They serve a purpose. Somebody has to cash the checks!
I’m sure there are a ton of reasons these bubbles MTE’s are falling apart but I agree that we shouldn’t let the NCAA failure of leadership off the hook here. Instead of 1 uniform set of rules there are numerous sets of rules everyone is playing by and making it impossible to get everybody on the same page. Much the same issue we saw with football.
Does B1G basketball have the same 21 day sit out rule that football has?
Yes. I believe so.
21 days is ridiculous
21 days allows for them to gauge possible heart damage from the infection.
Is Michigan b-ball media day this week?
Don’t have a “media day” on the calendar right now AFAIK. There have been various Zooms over the last few weeks though.
You said that it’s ridiculous. If there’s even any chance whatsoever that it could happen, it’s not ridiculous. You can debate its necessity, but going above and beyond to protect the athletes is never ridiculous. This is so much bigger than sports.
Alvarez should probably focus more of his attention on getting his own program healthy and preventing future outbreaks instead of making cardiology recommendations. Just my opinion.
If they were going above and beyond to protect athletes they wouldn’t let them play football.
21 days was ridiculous and everyone besides the B1G conference knew it.
The 21 days will be gone before basketball season
It looks like the cardiologists made the recommendations and Alvarez is doing his job
This is interesting because I know for a fact John’s Hopkins is strongly recommending any COVID Positive athletes (and also recommending any COVID positive student in general) go through extensive cardio tests before doing any “vigorous exercising.”
- Who is Ross Dellenger and why should I care what he says? (I was being facetious. I don’t really care who he is!) 2. We’ve been dealing with Covid-19 for what, 7 or 8 months, and they’ve only been talking about long term effects like heart disease for what, 3 or 4 months? Jury is out, way out. Let’s do some real research rather than tweeting about it! Again, not real interested in what this Dellenger fella tweets OR what Barry Alvarez says, for that matter.
Where did Barry Alvarez get his medical degree?
I suggest you read the article. Multiple cardiologists have said the same and the JAMA network just published a paper showing prevalence of myocarditis is no more than any other viral infection. It’s not Barry Alvarez saying it, it’s numerous experts in the field of cardiology who’ve had experience with covid recovered patients.
Of course the medical findings are going to be evolving on the novel virus. This is good news. What I have a problem with is Barry Alvarez “wanting to take a serious look” at this before the ink is even dry. This is what was agreed upon in order to get the season going. Let the medical people and upper admins have their discussions not rush something thru at the first sign of good news because you want to play football games.
