2020-21 Roster Speculation

You’re about where I’m at as well, that’s a pretty good lineup. The only thing I’d differ on is I think Dickinson will be more of a 10-15 minute a game type next year, same for Davis with Johns probably picking up 10-15 at the 5 as well.

Why do you guys think Eli Brooks will play less? Why would he not just take all of Zebs hypothetical minutes? And Zeb btw has not shown off ball propensity

I agree Brooks will get 30 to 35min per game IMO.

My bad I was looking at starters minutes I’d expect Eli to get 5-10 at the 2 as well. I dont expect Zeb or Terrence Williams to get 10 minutes a game (probably not close)

Brooks played the second most minutes on the team last year I believe

Livers, Franz, and Brooks are all 35 MPG locks IMO.

Zavier played 34 mpg last year and was somewhere in the top 10 of minutes percentage in the Big Ten. I doubt anyone cracks that number this year, so 35 is probably a bit too high. Now, in crunch time in a big game obviously there will be guys who get up there.

I don’t think anyone anywhere is locked in for 35mpg.

It is easy to round by 5s, but basically the max on the team will be about 32-33 and I think it will be Eli. Livers and Wagner will be around 30.

@BigBoutros this is why I didn’t round my numbers!!

Smith 30 , eli 10
Eli 23, franz 10, Brown 7
Franz 23, Brown 17
Livers 32, Johns 5, Brown 3
Johns 20, hunter 12, Austin 8

My best guess on average. Things varying. I could also see a scenario where Austin plays 15-20 a night.

I’m high on Johns so I think eventually it comes to the point where he’s out there as your “ five” but in name only really.

I listed by position just for simplicity but I think Dylan’s right. Position won’t likely matter much and I think Juwan is going to just get his best five guys out there as much as possible.

I think you see a lot of minutes where Smith or Eli is at the point surrounded by Franz , Brown, Livers and Johns and it’s very positionless or interchangeable. No true center but that’s a very tall lineup full of tweeners who can all score inside and out.

I’m really excited about it and i think it’s going to be pretty potent and tough to guard.

It is going to be a very potent

Give Terrence Williams some minutes

This is basically what I’m thinking except if flip Hunter and Johns’ minutes at the 5 and given Johns the Brown minutes are the 4

I’ll take the over on 12 minutes played by the freshmen combined during conference season

Because I think people are underrating Zeb and because I do not think we will enter the 2021/22 season with no experience at all at guard.

Very good possibility Hunter does it himself most games but I can’t figure out how to get everyone minutes with the current roster. I could see Zeb and Terrance getting spot minutes here and there but I just can’t see it consistently, team is just too deep.

That isn’t a knock on Zeb or Terrance either. I really like both of them and think they have bright futures.

That list was just an on average what I think it will looks like if Brown plays and there is no injuries. Certain games will look differently obviously.

I think Terrence gets minutes like Nunez did last year - a couple shifts per game. (Unless Brown isn’t eligible, then I think he’s on the fringe of the rotation).

For the most part I think the same is true of Zeb. However, he has the advantage of there being only two true guards ahead of him. If Eli or Smith get in foul trouble or roll an ankle, Zeb has to play. I think Howard tries harder early in the season to give Zeb a few minutes as insurance…though I thought that about Bajema last year and was horribly wrong.

Whoever gets the 9th spot, be it Zeb, TWill, or Nunez, will be competing for spot minutes dependent on game flow. So could be 0 could be 10.

Also another thing to consider, potentially no buy games to get extended garbage time

Agreed on all the points. There will be games where they all play imo, I was just going with what I think will be the standard. Its a tough call, I want to give Hunter more but is Davis really not going to play at all? I don’t see that, he played a ton last year with an accomplished senior ahead of him and he showed out offensively many times.

Then at the same time Johns imo is going to take the next step and he HAS to play some where. Center imo is the only option then for the most part as Livers, brown, and Franz all need their time too.

These are what we call good problems. Very deep roster this year. Should be fun.

Having a such deep roster could make for some fun and interesting practices/scrimmages. You could have a troublesome small ball group in Zeb, Nunez, Brown, Johns and Terrance.
