2019 - Wing - Franz Wagner (Commit)

Will Iggy know his plans for certain by the end of the Combine next Sunday or will he subsequently want to have workouts with teams up until May 29 before he makes a decision?

There’s really no reason why he wouldn’t play the whole process out in order to give himself the best possible chance of being drafted in a favorable spot. That’s what he wants.

Is it possible that the offer to Cumberland granted last Tuesday was restricted such that Cumberland’s commitment could not be made until Iggy made his decision to stay in the draft?

If Iggy ends up coming back ( which I know is a low probability) such that we only have one opening, would Beilein prefer to fill that spot with Cumberland (only 1 year to play) or with Wagner (likely at least 2 years to play)?

Would our likely having Wagner on board in 2020 (his 2nd year) hurt our recruitment of any of our 2020 targets?

No. Any contingent plans would mean that Cumberland goes elsewhere. He has plenty of great options with Oregon, NC State and Virginia on the board. There are no contingencies. Michigan offered him and wants him. Plus the odds of Iggy coming back are like 5% and Franz is probably 40%. You don’t risk leaving two openings. Cumberland fills a position of need with a skill set that they are desperate for (shooting).

A lot of NOISE in my opinion. Kind of like a kid who lives in Columbus who commits to Michigan. Doesn’t want to commit too early and have to deal with the crazy fans. No reason for him piss off his team in Germany. Also not sure this article is on point

Good point, umbob1.

I read the original in German. Nothing to get worked up about. The title declares that he’s hoping to get a professional contract from Alba. In the last paragraph they quote him saying that he hopes Alba want to keep him…duh, of course they do.

my read on this very odd story is that Alba is not serious about keeping Franz, at least not willing to risk their fortune on him

The article is just a space-filler. I wouldn’t reach any conclusion based on it.

Oh boy, highly unlikely that Franz will come if Beilein is not the Coach…

BTW: Franz is currently on a plane to AA. I wonder who will pick him up at the airport now.

Lmao. Is he just gonna get right back on a return flight?

No, they actually turned the plane around as it was crossing the Atlantic! Kidding!

But can you imagine getting off the airplane after flying about a fourth of the way around the world expecting to be greeted by Coach Beilein, only to be greeted by an assistant or two and told that Coach B was no longer the coach?!? Not sure I’d be too happy about that.

If Franz is really enroute to AA then this has to be the worst timing/luck ever. Sighs. When it rains it pours.

Yeah Franz liked Michigan because of the familiarity with the staff. So I assume if it’s anyone besides Saddi or Yak then he’s out. Can’t blame him either. I really hope he makes it to the NBA

I was hoping to tune in to Sam’s show this morning and hear him say, “Franz Wagner is in AA!” I REALLY thought that was going to happen. But this is the news to which I awakened! If Franz really is arriving in AA this morning, he may be even more shocked than we are, if that’s possible.

He’s probably out either way

Goodness gracious, of course he is now actually visiting after Beilein leaves.
