I definitely am on board with that. Even without Franz, I’m on board with Wilson, Livers, Johns on the wings if they are all decent to good shooters from three
DJ Wilson another prime example, and he did it between his second and third years on campus.
I bet DDJ takes it.
That was said about dj Wilson at one point.
This is kind of my feeling. Although coach b is willing to give a frosh minutes if ready , we’ve seen many cases where kids aren’t there mentally and coach b isn’t going to really let you work through dumb mental mistakes like other coaches. If coach has other ready vets at the position , he will go to those options and play them big minutes.
Johns was at the deepest position this year , the 3/4 spot. They experimented at the five which johns could do as a small ball option but really he’s a 4. He wasn’t there mentally so there was no reason to cut into the iggy, Charles, and livers rotation.
Just like dj, z, and teske before him I expect johns to come back and make a big jump. Once the game slows down his elite talent level will shine through and he will grow in confidence and he will become a real force. At worse I see him as a solid 15-20 minutes a Game player this year and I could see him really surprising everyone and being a really nice starter who helps form a dangerous starting core with livers, z, and John.
It took DJ three years.
he had longer to show me that I should give up on him. I was wrong on Wilson. So I won’t be moving on from Johns. Hopefully it clicks and he is a versatile contributor starting this year.
I think you start Eli but the minutes are fluid. I like the idea though and was thinking it would be the play for 15-25 a game. Franz could make it work on offense I think.
Especially with X and Teske returning, I am in favor of taking the 2 best players who will commit. The PG and Center have the most defined roles in the offense (PG more so with X, because of poor shooting), so I think the priority is to surround them with shooters at 2 - 4. It doesn’t really seem like any of these guys are known as great defenders, so just hope Yak can coach up any of the 4 into adequate team defenders. Unfortunately, it seems that a returning-Poole is the only option that would add any additional substantial shot creation.
Franz and Pierce seem the most likely to add anything beyond shooting, on offense. Franz has the highest ceiling. Pierce has experience and the most diverse skill-set. Quinones is (probably) the best shooter. Hyland is most likely to be a 4-year contributor/stick around for 4 years but least likely to help this year.
I think when all is said and done, this 2019 recruiting class will be a great one.
If Johns or Eli win the starting job or significant minutes off the bench then what they did last season doesn’t really mean much. It will mean that they’ve proven to be better at the moment then anyone else on the team. The cream will rise whether it’s freshmen or sophomores and it’s not worth worrying about at this moment. If Johns doesn’t develop quickly enough, he’ll get passed. Same with Eli. I wouldn’t write either off just yet because we’ve seen players with big jumps from one season to the next… DJ Wilson, MAAR, Wagner… Teske this year made a huge jump.
Some Franz and Walton assists thrown in there!
OK, so in this video clip Franz is playing with and against pros. No, it’s not the NBA but these guys are professional basketball players. Assuming Iggy leaves, and I know there are a lot of people who think he will, There is no question, for me, that Franz could step in right away and be an effective player early and an impact player by the end of the year.
Yeah that was cool seeing a glimpse of Walton in the highlights.
Unfortunately, I’m getting so excited at the prospect he could play for Michigan that I’m going to struggle now if we don’t land him. Someone show me how to make one of those little shoulder shrug guys to place here. . .
What Brazdeikis did is pretty rare around here. He started from day 1 and ended up leading the team in scoring and was an honorable mention all-American. Part of that being possible was due to his grown-man physique. It’s hard for me to predict that any of the incoming or potential incoming players can come in and have a freshman season like Brazdeikis did. He was a 5-star player who performed up to that ranking.
I think people are having an easier time predicting it with Wagner because his competition level is so much higher than most incoming recruits.
Absolutely. If he is on the court with guys like Walton, and contributing positively, he would immediately be a very good NCAA D1 player.
I really like him but that’s a great point , I didn’t even think about that. Makes me like him more
