2017 Recruiting Notes

In Loyer’s defense though, he rarely turns the ball over, and seems to have a good understanding of the game…just don’t know if he has the tools to succeed at the high major level.

I really liked the footage that I’ve seen of Jackson. Is he really far behind Simpson? Last I checked, they’re both small – but isn’t Jackson arguably the better handler and passer? Simpson has that great floater and good reputation on defense.

I’d rather have David Dejulius (DEPSA) as my PG in 18 over Loyer FWIW.

Hardy with 8 straight as soon as I walk in the door. North Farmington up 8

Toledo here watching Hardy

Another guy that I think UM should be prioritizing for 17 at the PF spot is Donnie Tillman. Tillman is a legit 6’6, probably 225…think Draymond Green type game. His handle at that size/frame is very nice. Has great motor and athleticism at that size. Donnie has been hurt a bit this year at Findlay Prep, so he’s a bit under the radar as a 3 star, but there is no doubt in my mind that he is a top 100 talent. He’s originally from Detroit (Cass Tech), and is attainable IMO. Bonus - runs with the same AAU club as Jamal Cain.

Didn’t JB go to watch him once at Findlay? I really like him – gives you strength and above the rim finishing ability that we just don’t have. Would it be either him or Cain? Or are they complimentary? I have trouble seeing this staff prioritize him, but I’d love to be wrong about that.

Also, would you take over Young? If Young is the staff priority, I assume something would need to change for Tillman to get a serious look. I personally like Tillman better.

Donnie has been hurt for a few months, so the staff hasn’t been able to check him out in quite some time. Donnie is obviously a better athlete and ballhandler than Young, whereas Kyle is a better shooter. I’d say Donnie is a better rebounder as well. We know the staff loves shooting, but as a 2 way player, I’d say Donnie is probably a bit better, although I love Kyle Young’s game.

Also, I think you can play Donnie and Cain together. Donnie can check the opposing PF in the post with no problem, the kid is strong like a bull.

LOVE Tillman! He has the one thing we lack most, motor.

Chez, his motor is ridiculous. Donnie is such a great kid as well, REALLY humble kid that is well spoken.

If we are ever gonna start upgrading our athleticism Tillman would be a great start. Probably isn’t the right fit though. :rage:

If ‘personality’, ‘culture’, or any other BS subjective test is part of the criteria…Donnie would be a GREAT fit for UM.

Donnie is the EXACT type of kid that JB spoke of earlier this year. An extremely nice kid off the court, but tough as nails on the court.

I mean who are we prioritizing. I’d like to hear some noise. Guess things will pick up in summer

That’s the million dollar question, seems like most schools have some idea of top targets while we know a couple of targets. I know people aren’t very optimistic about JB changing but hoping he realizes the need for athleticism on the roster.

So I just noticed something, I was looking up Kyle Young to see if he had mentioned at any time in the recent past. And for one, it looks like he hasn’t.

But more notably, we are not listed as offering him on any of the recruiting sites. Aren’t those lists updated by the kids themselves? So he hasn’t cared to report the Michigan offer despite reporting all of the other offers he’s received?

If he has a Draymond type game, I absolutely want him. I’ve always thought that Draymond or a Nigel Hayes was a perfect fit for a JB four man. Good enough shooter to stretch then floor, just athletic enough to guard a stretch four and thick enough to guard the bangers down low.
