2017 - C - Mo Bamba (Offer)

Was he at the game or watching on TV?

Tv. Put it on Instagram on his story

Could JACOB EPPERSON be a back up plan to Bamba? He plays with Poole so maybe it could quickly be explored? 6-11 and has a nice low post game already that includes a baby hook.

We’re recruiting Bamba for his talent level, not his position.

Agreed and I think Epperson is a good option as well.

If we don’t get Bamba then move on as we have to many 5’s as it is. Need more wings who can create or a grad transfer point.

Staff can’t seriously think he is coming

I get everyone’s skepticism, and I’m right there with you. However, why wouldn’t there be a chance if he was watching the game and made that public?

Whether it’s 1% consideration or more than we think, he’s at least still considering Michigan if he’s watching them play.

I am tempted to say figure he won’t come and if he does create space one way or another.

The positive spin you could put on the Ohio State performance is that he would be a huge difference maker defensively, on the boards and would likely not get into as much foul trouble as Wagner/Wilson. He would be a +4-5 wins kind of player for Michigan whereas for Duke or Kentucky plus +1-2 at best.

So there are people who are mad that JB passed on Langford once he locked up Battle and there are people mad that we’ve given up on Bamba and aren’t out offering lower rated athletes. Range of emotions indeed.

I’m not sure how these situations are the same at all. Langford wanted to commit early and we turned him away. Bamba is in the midst of a recruitment that will basically go the end of the cycle where we are unlikely to be the favorite.

There’s no evidence that Langford wanted to commit early. We were in the running, and in pretty good shape, but there was no attempt to commit on his part.

There is no evidence for anything in recruiting besides people’s words… Sam Webb has said that this is the case since it happened and he is very very reliable.

My understanding was that JB didn’t recruit through the whistle. Battle committed to lock up a spot and JB cut off recruiting Langford. Langford went green. Then Battle went to Syr. In that case we all wish JB would have continued to pursue the top tier talent and figure out fit. In this case JB is continuing to pursue the top 10 talent regardless of fit. In both cases the man has serious detractors.

He sure didn’t commit earlier than Battle…

Sam has also been on the record saying that Beilein tried to put a little pressure on both Battle and Langford to commit. Coach was open about the fact that they offered both players, had one spot available, and the spot would go to the first player who accepted the offer.

This practice also happens on the football side and the idea is to get things rolling. The fear is that if both players remained uncommitted for too long, neither of them would commit. Unfortunately, thanks to Battle and his dad, the nightmare scenario happened anyway and Michigan ended up with neither…

After Battle committed, Langford’s dad called Beilein to ask if a scholarship was still available. Beilein said ā€œno.ā€ There were no more open spots. If one was available, would Langford have committed? No one knows that. Should Beilein have sad ā€œyesā€ and figured it out later if Langford ended up committing? That’s the debate that I’ve seen.
