Did a bit more research on Huerter, the advanced metrics for EYBL indicate he’s a low usage, catch and shoot type player on offense. Low FT rate, assist rate is decent, but nothing that screams PG by any means. Rebounding rate is not great either.
The advanced stats basically confirm my opinion on Huerter - nice player, but a supplemental piece rather than a primary ballhandler. Think he could be good if surrounded by good creators, but wouldn’t want him to be a main option on offense.

I tend to take EYBL metrics with a grain of salt, but I also think the assist rate is important. Huerter was able to rack up assists without dominating the ball which I think is rare, especially on that level.
Dylan, I tend to agree with EYBL metrics, but to put this in context Huerter has a FT rate lower than Aubrey Dawkins, a usage rater lower than Derrick Walton. Bruce Brown has a higher assiste rate and nearly SIX times the FT rate. That tells me Huerter is a) not a PG b) not a primary ballhandler c) not inclined to penetrate in a half court set…all this screams off ball player, who is better suited for a supplemental role. I watched him for 2 games this past weekend, and thought he was a nice player, just not a primary creator/ballhandler, especially in the halfcourt set.
Take a look at Nik's AAU film in HS and you tell me if Huerter is even approaching that level.
You’re right, not by a country mile. If Nik hadn’t been Canadian he would have been a consensus five-star. In that respect, he is similar to Jamal Murray (very different players though).
KH looks like a nice player but far from a game changer at this point. At very least he would need an upper-tier ball handler PG to make an impact. Goodin could do the trick, but I feel like a Winston/KH backcourt would be too slow. I mean, compare it to Yogi/Blackmon and tell me how it rates. Since UM is a guard school, a Yogi-Blackmon level backcourt should be the baseline. It’s not like I’m suggesting we land a 5-star center or anything. (Though I wouldn’t object.)
I’ve heard buzz regarding Murray staying in HS for another year and then declaring for the draft as well. Would prevent him from being ‘exposed’ so to speak in the college game. He’s played well at the national events which means his stock is high already.
Cumberland would be my last choice. He has the weakest playmaking ability and athleticism of all 3. Pretty much a catch and shoot player that has the ability to occasionally bully a defender to the rim. We need ballhandlers in a major way
Have a feeling We will end up with Cumberland if OSU or the other elite programs do go after him. Not a bad player, but doesn’t really fit our needs for ballad doing and perimeter speed and certainly a step below Langford, Battle, Jefferson. Very much reminds me of Rayvonte Rice.
Agree Matt…but its hard to expect to get anybody better than Cumberland. I still think we could legitimately take 3 more in 2016. 1spot open. THe Davis situation appears to be flexible. WOuld only take 1 more open spot and with Kam, Morritz, Wilson Robinson all being similar players…its safe to say one won’t be back next year. But if we already told Towns that we’re backing off, I can’t imagine we’d actually do that.
