Looks like Jefferson averaged 9pts & 3rebs on 39% from 3 during the 2014 AAU season for SYF as a sophomore. That’s pretty impressive for a player with his recruiting profile

Fun Facts:
His HS is a Top 15 team in Indiana.
Beat Gary West (Chris Hunter’s HS), Lake Central (GRIII’s HS), and Chesterton (Novak/McGary/Spike HS)
E’Twaun Moore is an alum of ECC
Griffith, the team in the full game film, recently made national news for getting in a brawl (about 2 minutes into a game!) and have had to cancel their season.
Da Region plays some PHYSICAL ball!
I agree with MattD - how is this kid not on the radar? Is this the Audrey Dawkins of the 2015 class?
He’s 2016.
He's 2016.
…that’s what I meant, 2016.
He's 2016.…that’s what I meant, 2016.
Much better than Dawkins in my opinion. After watching his 2nd and third clips that I posted I am absolutely shocked that this kid isn’t a top 60-80 player in the country. Every bit as good as Maverick Rowan, if not better, especially if we are accounting for both sides of the court.
Dylan - did Jefferson ever camp at UM with Edwards?
A few more Jefferson highlights from the 10:50 - 11:40 marks. Truly perplexed how this kid is not a top 100 player…it is mindboggling
Ok…finally found the issue with Jefferson. Seems he was acadmically ineligible the second half of the 2013-14 season per this report from December 2014. Apparently he’s cleared those issues since he is playing.
Yep. Did some light digging last night and heard that grades are at least something of a concern. Getting eligible to play in HS is one step, but that doesn’t mean grades are good enough to play college ball yet.

Dylan - any idea of whether Jefferson has taken (and hopefully passed) the ACT/SAT?
For this kid’s sake, hope he’s able to get it to together academically, whether it be at UM or any other school. Really has some talent.
Have to wonder if grades are what is preventing more high majors from giving Jefferson a hard look, or they simply don’t think he’s that good? Find it hard to believe schools don’t think Jefferson is a legit talent.
UM makes top 7 cut for Battle; UM not recruiting Battle as a primary ballhandler per Daddy Battle - Syracuse, ND, & OSU recruiting him as such. I still think Battle is leaning toward Duke, but they don’t seem to be waiting for him. I think Battle is Duke’s backup plan if they don’t land Ingram or Giles. I think Battle will wait it out for those 2.

From the context of this article, it seems like being a primary ballhandler in the offense will be a major factor for Battle…don’t like UM’s chances since Syracuse, ND & OSU are recruiting him as a ballhandler, and we are not.
The fact that we are still in it for Battle gives us a punchers chance. There is ALOT to play out in his recruitment yet. Daddy Battle loves to play to the most recent “love” shown by the school of the day, but where is his sons heart really at? If it’s at Duke and his spot fills up, then we’re a realistic spot IMO. Does anybody really believe that if Tyus shows the ability to facilitate with the ball in his hands once in college that JB wouldn’t utilize that skill? I sometimes wonder if we’re recruiting his dad as vigorously as his dad would like? Thats the wild card here, his Pop LOVES the attention.

Here is the reality that I think a lot of people here hate - a head coach’s job in contemporary times is to be a salesman to the family/handler as a unit…you have to sell a vision of what the kid wants to see. I think all coaches would love to say “here is what we have to offer, you will have to work hard, and may or may not get you playing time, but you will get a good degree and improve over the course of 4 years”…but that simply doesn’t work. Kids don’t want to hear that for the most part, they are interested in hearing how said coach can get them to the NBA in the quickest possible manner while getting immediate playing time in a role that showcases their individual talents as opposed to the best interest of the team.

I’d love to hear Calipari’s pitch then. He’s got 5 star guys playing a max of 20 min a game. Say what you will, but UK looks like more than a collection of talent, they look like a cohesive team.

I’ve said it before, and people dismiss it…but Cal has what JB doesn’t…charisma. The guy simply has a rockstar personality that kids gravitate to. To make an analogy, Cal is Hollywood, whereas JB is Topeka. Cal pulls up in a limo to pick kids up (actually true per DT), while JB pulls up in a Civic. Cal has midnight madness, JB has regular practice.
JB’s age, cultural background, general demeanor, and coaching style just don’t seem to connect with urban youths as well in my opinion. No inside knowledge, just my take.
Thanks for the videos; he does indeed look impressive. Class of 2016, right? The only thing I disagree with is the Wilson comparison. They are totally different players, and I think Wilson’s senior year film was pretty good. And he more than held his own against Ivan Rabb head-to-head. Either way, this Jefferson kid certainly looks like a top 100 guy. Those are the kind of kids we may need to start focusing on again - the under-the-radar types who are way more talented than their rankings suggest. I remember the first time I saw video on Burke - I was shocked he wasn’t a really highly regarded recruit.

Looks like JB had a speaking engagement in NW Indiana last night. Hopefully he checked in on Damien Jefferson to give him some motivation to get his academic affairs in order!
