Committed to Notre Dame. Michigan was planning to watch him this July.
Ryan is a guy that Michigan wanted to watch and was keeping an eye on, but Notre Dame had been in on him for a long time. His hip injuries are a concern and he probably bought into their loyalty rather than trying to rush back to impress some of the bigger schools on his list.
I was just reading on 247 that Matt Ryan had said ND was his leader back in May. This is huge news as far as Michigan’s recruitment of Jalen Coleman. There are still other suitors out there for sure, but I got the impression that MSU and ND were two of the bigger suitors for his services.
ND is looking at Jalen as a PG/SG and Ryan as a big wing. Don’t think it has any effect.
Yeah Ryan shouldn’t have any effect on Coleman… Although they are both shooters, they play different positions and have totally different games
MSU is not a threat with Coleman.

I 100% realize this (Harris, Forbes, being left out of his top 6). My takeaway was that MSU and ND were/are considered big threats for Coleman’s services, and so this committment definitely should not hurt Michigan’s chances.
I’d say Illinois was running 3rd, not MSU.

Before MSU got loaded at the wing/guard positions? That seems different from what I recall, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Yeah. Groce has made a huge push since the Spring.
Good to know. I hadn’t heard too much on Illinois gaining ground, though I knew Groce was recruiting him. I’ll just keep hoping for players without Michigan offers to take up scholarships for Illinois and ND then.
I don’t see Ryan affecting Coleman’s decision. Different players, different positions.
ND just got the commitment of 6’8’’ combo-forward Elijah Burns. They have 1 scholarship left http://www.verbalcommits.com/schools/notre-dame

Any idea about the other prospects on their board at Coleman’s position? Or is it Coleman or bust?

Rex Pflueger, Samir Sehic, Levan Alston, Devin Cannady. Aaron Falzone and Luke Maye
Coleman has priority, though.
