2015 Guard and Wing Recruiting (PJ Dozier, etc.)

They are recruiting a top 30 guy.

The one who can actually play the 1 and 2 spot. His name is PJ Dozier.

A guy most of you didn’t know til Coleman ( a top 30 guy who can actually play the 1 and 2) “became iffy” and PJ released his top 5.

I’m on top of hoops recruiting bud. I have been on Dozier from the jump.

What does it matter if the majority of fans only heard about him recently? The staff has been on him from the start, before his injury. And Dozier’s father always mentioned how some teams backed off, UM was always there, through the injury.

Sure

Michigan has been recruiting Dozier since he was a five star last summer. His recruitment went quiet for awhile after he got injured. There wasn’t much to say about him until he narrowed his list.

I’m not one to get my hopes up for guys until the recruitment heats up. Recently it has and people have begun to talk about him again.

I’m not sure why everything has to be a pissing contest with you to show why you know more than everyone and are the superior voice around here. Let’s just talk about players michigan is recruiting and not feel it necessary to act like you’re better than everyone else. Makes for a much better forum. Multiple different opinions are good. Where someone turns an opinion and tries to make it a fact is where issues stem.

I can’t tell.

If you bring up my name in a conversation im not apart of or quote my opinion to disagree always then I will reply.

I wasn’t even referring to you when you responded, was responding to MattD.

It’s just that other then posting information from twitter (which I would imagine everyone appreciates), you belong on the Crisler Corner board.

Why do you question that? Dozier’s recruitment goes back to before his knee injury that caused him to miss a full season. He and his dad have had a genuine interest in Michigan for quite awhile, and Beilein never backed off. Anyone who’s followed the recruiting sites knows this.

Nevermind.

“He said, ‘Dad, until I go on my visits, that’s the only way I’ll know if it’s a fit for me,'” Dozier Sr. told the Courier-Journal. “People can predict all day, but there would be a lot of people winning the lottery if they knew what they were talking about, right? North Carolina has done a great job, but again, we haven’t taken an official visit there. At one time, people said it would be South Carolina because he would be at home. Now people are saying it’s going to Georgetown because it’s close to my home (of Baltimore). There’s a lot of projections and predictions, and people can do that all they want. But I do know this – that P.J. is going through the process the correct way. I’ll be glad when it’s over with, but however long it takes to make the decision, I don’t want him to look back after he makes it.”

Reading this quote, it reminds me a lot of the Kam Chatman recruitment. The dads both sound very familiar. Hopefully it ends up the same way.

Not good for us, thought he was heading to S. Carolina, would’ve made things concerning Dozier more interesting for us.

IMO, if he’s going to South Carolina because of the family ties, then South Carolina getting other good players would actually strengthen their case. But also IMO, South Carolina is lower on his list of finalists, so this news doesn’t affect me.

Wouldn’t have aided SC’s case if numbers won’t allow it to. In any event, I still think SC is the favorite in this recruitment.

I’ll be very surprised if he ends up at South Carolina. If we don’t get him, I think he’ll go to UNC. Among his finalists, four are teams that are top 20 programs (Louisville, UNC, Michigan, Georgetown), and then there’s South Carolina, a team that is generally awful. I know his uncles played there, but that’s not a real compelling reason to pick them.

His father played at SC, and sister currently attends. Brundidge had almost identical situation, as UM was awful at the time. Family ties are pretty compelling

Brundidge was not being courted by at least three top 10 programs. He was ranked in the 80-90 range and I don’t think MSU wanted him, so we were his best option unless he wanted to go play at Iowa or somewhere like that. And I wouldn’t have called us “awful” at the time he committed - we came off a bad 2010 season to be sure, but 2009 was a turning point and we had already started to land some recruits (Morris, Hardaway, Smote among them) that showed we were building up a solid program. Michigan was in much better shape when Brundidge committed than South Carolina is now, and Dozier is a far better talent. So I think the argument is a stretch.

Not to mention the fact Michigan basketball was relevant in the not to distant past and is a great academic institution. Not so much for SC.

I agree that SC is a bit worse in relation to UM when CB came aboard, but I still believe family ties are a bit more compelling than you’d like to admit. Ziegler, Brunson, Valentine…all make decisions based on family first and basketball second in my opinion.
