When I first came to the boards I was afraid you were a ‘blow horn when right, silent when wrong’ guy. You have repeatedly shown since then that you are not that guy. Thank you for your honesty, integrity, and the insights and info you bring to the board.
Review the past however many Ohio mr basketballs. I’ll take the winner of that award every year. I expect x to be much better next year. He will need that floater and elbow jumper though.
X will be fine. He’s just not the impact from day one guy we thought he was. I’m not as down on the talent as everybody else. I’m a little frustrated at times with how the talent is used though. Their ball iq as a collective is iffy as well.
Guys could be put in better situations to succeed imo. I’m more frustrated with this then his hit or misses on the recruiting trail honestly, not that I’m thrilled with that either. . I believe as a collective they have the ability to be top 25 to top 20 good. Not sure they will get there though. This team is puzzling.
Everyone is doom and gloom, not me. If we lose tonight I will get nervous. I have said it a few times I believe the talent this year is good enough to finish at the top of the conference in a weak big ten year ( at the top at least). It’s about coach b getting it out of these guys which he’s only done a few times this year.
We often look confused on offense and blow lots of possessions out of sloppiness/ stupidity. He needs to get this unit playing better as their not fulfilling their potential or their roles on the team.
Even guys like mark could be used better/ differently. He has shown potential to score and fill it up. He should be a very solid big off the bench with the chance to dominate second units. He rolls well usually and has nice hands and can finish. Also I really like his face up game. Coach needs to get him some touches and playing confident.
I’m maars biggest supporter on here and I admit he’s not playing well. I’m ok with him coming off the second unit as some like the poster above suggests as Duncan fits better with the starters sometimes. I still think maar is overall the better player, he’s just a little lost right now. I say give him 20-25 minutes off the bench and let him be the go to scorer on the second unit. X him zak Mark and dj is the likely rotation in that scenario.
Maar playing well along with Mark is essential to us winning. I also thinks it’s important to play maar down the stretch in tight games. He showed last year that he’s a gamer in tight games when everyone else is freezing up. He’s willing to attack And make something happen. He has that " dog" people were mentioning last year.
Im going to beat the proverbial dead horse here. We need more moe. Bottom line. He was essentially non
Existant last game. Major reason we lost imo. He should have been killing those frosh and we never went to him. His lack of touches on the block or high post in ISO’s was extremely frustrating. He needs to be involved early and often and used as out go to scorer.
Best creator/ offensive player on the team. Dj and moe is to good of a front court for us to lose a game like that. No real shot blockers or strong post defender out there for Iowa. Moe should have ate. He does need to rebound better defensively though/ learn to defend the rim better.
Let’s blow these guys out tonight and find some rythym on offense. Anybody who doubts our offensive talent just needs to throw on ucla first half. Is ucla good defensively? No, but we were extremely efficient and the ball moved well and intelligently and we got wide open looks and good shots over and over. No Reason our offense should stall for 5 minutes at a time and look lost. This is where zak and Derrick are failing leadership wise and honestly so is coach b. Call a time out and get these guys organized.
I think MAAR is going through some sort of punctuated equilibrium and will come out tonight with some rapid advances to his game. Player of game tonight
For those that claim effort isn’t an issue, I have no clue what team you are watching. The intensity level from Michigan is simply unacceptable. There is no accountability
I don’t understand how JB doesn’t call a timeout and go off on them or bench all 5 guys. Could be a middle school tactic but this lack of hustle and effort is just unbearable to watch.
And (at least earlier in the season) Wagner was the only guy who’d get yanked for mistakes. Gotta hook people for poor effort. It’ll motivate both the guy in (ibi? X?) and the guy coming out (Irvin, Walton, maar).
It starts with Beilein himself. Until he shows the willingness to bench players for long stretches regardless of the game outcome, the effort issues will persist. Players respond to splinters.
Him calling out the players in public was disgusting to me. The effort issue starts, persists, and ends with him. Do your damn job and start holding players accountable.
Think about this - if Jim Harbaugh witnessed that sort of effort from our football players what do you think he would do regardless of the score/outcome. That’s why he’s on the verge of getting to the CFP while the basketball team is whatever it is these days. Just disgusting
I agree. I just can’t understand how he’s able to sit there and coach this type of effort and not bench anyone. It’s hard to watch. I can only hope it gets better in the coming years but I can’t think of anyone that’s going to change it. Wagners the only one that I can think of which is sad because he’s a player and it’s not on them to bring out intensity in their teammates. I thought X would bring some toughness/motor but I’m not seeing anything. I don’t think we get help with it with any of our 2017 recruits either. I know I’m living in the past but I can only imagine what Novak would be doing and saying to these guys.
The way they came back and finished this game vs Penn St was nice. I was ready to find a way to get Irvin off the team but he was clutch and finished strong. My gut tells me that the way they finished will carry on and be a nice momentum boost. A win is a win no matter how you write it.
Letting it all hang out now, huh? Is disgusting a technical hoop term, or just one you coined yourself? Tell you one thing. . . he just moved into second all-time on the coaching win list, and you’re calling him disgusting in incessant anonymous posts on message boards, trailing high school kids through dirty parking lots in the Michigan winter. You embarrass yourself, Matt. Be bigger than that, a little more magnanimous.
