I hear what you’re saying and share the frustration. I think they’ve done themselves a disservice by just not being out there in front of their story–available–more.
But at the risk of a mildly political take, my sense is that so much of the larger balls-up took place at levels far above, and long ago. And everyone else, picking up the pieces, has had to deal with so many contradictions, a puzzle with so many moving parts. And–let’s be honest–these are guys in suits, doing these jobs because somebody has to do them. Under duress like the rest of us.
I try to give them the benefit of the doubt to at least some extent, assume that they’re trying to get it right. I mean, heck yeah no one should go to England to play quidditch and return to their desk job, etc. But I think we can assume that higher-ups would have wanted to get that one right. . . And that doesn’t mean that malfeasance shouldn’t have consequences.
Great post; great questions. Hard to imagine why you’d want to get that one wrong, but these are the questions that make boring things like bureaucracies actually very interesting…
On Michigan basketball insider both coaches said Sunday was their first full practice. So as long as everyone keeps testing negative. The women will play Thursday and men Sunday. I’m ready for Michigan basketball to start again.
Playing someone else’s fun predictions game here: “VERY rusty. It’s really going to take some time to get back up to speed. I’m sure Wisconsin won’t be taking Michigan lightly, but it’s gotta be tempting for them to be peeking at the schedule to see who’s next.”
Posting here not to rehash old debates, but just to remark on the commendable resiliency from Athletic Department during this pandemic.
Both hoops teams had great seasons.
The women’s gymnastics team won a Natty. The men’s team got a Big Ten title.
Hockey had an unfortunate ending. But I’m sure baseball and softball are primed for good seasons this summer as well.
