What does that even mean regarding the Wisconsin game?
I have no idea.
It means the game vs Wisconsin is to be determined. Have patience. You will know when you know.
Believe he was referring to āin part because U-M and UW are determining next steps with testing and protocols.ā
Could just be an oddly quoted comment (thereās a reason that these things usually come from carefully worded statements and not assistant coaches) but it is strange because the Big Ten has pretty well-established testing and protocols at this point.
I take it to meant that much like Purdue and Michigan, the two schools are determining what each school is comfortable with before agreeing that the game can proceed. Wisconsin may reasonably take the view that Michigan athletics has an uncontained B117 exposure and be leery of playing us. If they want a higher level of testing than the Big Ten minimum, it is up to Michigan to decide if we want to go along with that or postpone the game.
I hope they can get it figured out from a competition perspective if Wisconsin is willing to make it work. Another 10 days without Michigan basketball will make the polar vortex next week even more unbearable.
I read it the opposite to mean that Michigan could potentially have some greater ask now. Michigan has been quarantined for two weeks, I donāt think that qualifies as āuncontained exposureā.
End of the day, itās definitely an eyebrow raising comment and something to keep an eye on.
I mean, Iāve never viewed it as an āuncontained exposureā either, but I donāt think Wisconsin would be crazy to read the State report and think the situation must be worst than what is being reported if our student athletes canāt even practice.
What would Michigan be asking from Wisconsin at this point beyond allowing them to play the game as scheduled? Are they trying to move dates forward or backward already to your knowledge?
As I said above, I donāt have any clue what specifics Martelli is referring to there. My point was just that Michigan is the school that shutdown with no positive tests. If one party was going to introduce a new requirement to the league protocol then you would think it would be that school. Not the school that is currently playing games.
Might not be worth reading into much, since Phil is such a straight shooter. Probably just means weāre not out of the quarantine yet, and depending on all our testing meeting B1G protocols weāll be playing the Wisconsin game.
It seems pretty clear at this point there is no way that Michigan gets to 20 conference games without a cancellation of the B1G Tournament. In that light, this seems likeā¦a good thing? Having to face the second-best team in the league after sitting on your hands for two weeks and getting in maybe 2-3 practices always seemed like a surefire auto-loss. Iām still grappling with how to feel about potentially losing a regular season crown due to things completely out of the teamās hands, but without any guidance still from the league office, Iāll just file that under āreview laterā for the time being.
Iām a Michigan fan. And, once was a Lions fan. Iāve had a lot of practice with new and novel ways to be screwed.
If they are actually going to have a B1G tournament, it provides a chance for U-M to simply prove it on the court. Yes, a regular season championship would rock, but since equal amounts of games played among all the B1G teams doesnāt look like a reality, get in the bubble, stay healthy, and beat everyone. Nine in a row in Indy.
At this point I think the goal should be to get to 18 games and ensure that we play Illinois, @Wisc, @OSU, and Iowa. If everything works out we finish, like, 15-3 and the next team is 14-5 or something similar that makes it clear that weād be undisputed champs, regardless of uneven games played.
Honest question here and I donāt mean to go down a rabbit hole but do we think Michigan would have postponed the Illinois game if it was Northwestern instead? How much of this is āwe arenāt ready to playā vs. āwe arenāt ready to play the second best team in the conferenceā
I donāt doubt there is some gamesmanship here. Michiganās standing in the B1G and nationally gets better the longer it sits out.
That could be - but I think itās a perfectly legitimate point if so. To have this situation potentially affect the conference title race really wouldnāt be very fair.
This is all just so dumb and unnecessary. We basically lose 3 weeks of games because someone on the water polo team doesnāt quarantine? What?!?
Correct me if Iām wrong but is Mich the only Mens bbl team to have to pause with having zero positive tests within the program?
once the players in revenue sports get paid, it should be the end of non-revenue sports, at least should be largely reduced unless they are supported by endowment
