Squad 100 moving on to 101

I think when Walton isn’t overly tired from playing 36 minutes a game he is a solid defender. I also believe MAAR has shown good potential as a defender who will improve with experience. Simpson looks quicker than both and very aggressive.

Toledo - X is a fine defender at the HS level, but don’t think he’s quite as quick laterally in relation to Derrick. What X does possess is quick hands and a pitbull mentality.

Agree, something badly missing!

MattD, I’m curious what you think the timeshare of minutes could be next year between X, DW and MAAR. Will X bring something to the table of immediate value or is he simply stepping into Dakich’s minutes?

X will reduce MAAR and Walton to 30 minutes a game and X will play 20 minutes a game

Tbh, I’m hoping X is good enough to justify some 3 guard lineups. Could cut into Dawkins minutes if so.

It’s really difficult to project without knowing Spike’s status. Assuming Spike is done, I’d say X gets somewhere from 6-10 mins a game depending on the matchup.

Spike and Caris both posted goodbye instagrams yesterday, so I doubt Spike is coming back. I think his hip injury has him done for good.

We are going to do well next year. We will not bea bubble team. Wagner is going to really help us. If we get some consistency out of the seniors we are going to be good.

I’m real bitter we blew that game the other night. Should have pulled that upset. Bracket opened up for us. Hopefully Duncan shoots consistently next year to. Also who’s to say Aubrey won’t step back up and be a valuable offensive player. I have faith in next yeArs team

I would hope that without injuries and more depth MAAR and Walton wouldn’t have to play more than 30 minutes a game. That would allow them to be fresher on defense. If it were a 3 guard rotation that would leave up to 20 minutes a game for Simpson. If Irvin or Watson get time in the backcourt then less for Simpson.

Is it just me or did Dawkins have a terrible end to the season? I expected much more from him, like being able to defend somewhat competently and play a poor man’s GRIII type role.

Dawkins played about as good as he’s capable of. He’s simply not very good and is an average overal athlete. He would make a solid mid major player. In the big ten, he’s out of his element.

My man could make up the entire SC top ten with his reel of missed slams.

You said I’d be back and I am, although this will be it as I’m about to be banned. You’re an idiot!

Haha. Okay…

mpbear- I know you like Matt Painter better than JB, but why? Painter is ready to be put on the noose by just about every Purdue fan for wasting their most talented team in a while. He has coached 3 years longer than Beilein at his current position yet has 1). Less Big Ten Championships. 2). Produced fewer NBA players. 3). Never made it past the sweet 16, and 4). The exact same percentage of making the NCAA tourney as Beilein, all while being in a talent hotbed. I agree with you on a couple things but It’s just insane to say that Painter is better than Beilein in my opinion.

I agree I actually hate how Matt Painter coaches. This year he had too good of a team. His bigs were some of the best in the conference and arguably in the country, Vince Edwards is a nice athletic talented player, Raphael Davis is a outstanding defender, Johnny Hill is a solid defender and can score, P.J. Thompson plays the point well, Dakota Mathias and Ryan Cline shoot as well as anyone and the underwhelmed. Also for the talent Vince Edwards has he doesn’t do nearly enough. I blame that on coaching.

Painter’s guard play is what does him in. He can have all the 7 footers he wants the college game is won with really good guards. Until he does a better job recruiting at the 1 and 2 he will continue to struggle.

I remember when Purdue, under Painter, was a drop down fight on the defensive end. They don’t seem to have that anymore.

Wolverheel, I think both Painter and JB leave a lot to be desired as coaches. If I had to pick one to run my program right now, I’d take Painter due to age.

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement though. Just to be clear, I don’t want Painter anywhere near Michigan’s basketball program.

Fair enough, I still do think you’re being a little too hard on Beilein though. Sure, it looks like we’re in for a simply average future, but he’s 2 years removed from a dominating Big Ten Championship season and the only seasons since that have had devastating injuries. I get critiquing him, but we should wait for a healthy season where he fails before saying some of the negative things I’ve seen you say about him.
