While I’m taking solace in the fact that it’s not Kentucky, I can’t help but be pissed that we somehow lost a recruiting battle to Cal. I am REALLY starting to lean towards MattD’s side on the Beilein debate.

We just can’t buy any luck with top end recruits and the last two years have been hard to digest after the great run.
How did we lose to California? I would have felt much better losing to UK. Bring Max back and let’s be a Top 20 team entering preseason and make the Sweet 16 next year. That would be a good year.

I can deal with losing out to UK, it’s to be expected. But as I’ve been saying for the past 6 months, we simply can’t continue to lose out to teams that are either relatively equal, or below UM in the pecking order. I mean, seriously, we just lost Jayken Brown to Cal. To Cal? Pathetic
Watch this dude pick Cal, nobody is talking about them all the "rumors" have been about him going too Kentucky or Michigan with UNC pretty much being eliminated. Nobody has even talked about Cal yet they keep making his cuts. Hopefully this ends soon.

Agreed MattD…You can pick up a lot of wins in recruiting and I think we just collected some L’s and this just hurts.
You can say we lost him to Cal and that sounds bad, but you could also say Kentucky lost him to Cal…so yeah. If Calipari can’t sway him…

Jaylen and Ivan Rabb are close, if Swaginan had picked Cal instead of MSU they would have been a national title threat even without him Wallace, Brown, and Ivan Rabb is a really strong Big 3. Not surprised by this at all, I think Paul Biancardi had it right originally with it being Cal or Michigan and once that was put out their in the media the rest of this stuff regarding Jaylen was being thrown out their to throw people off.

Cal might be the best college coach, in any sport, at marketing and sales. Kentucky had 35mpg for him at the SF position, is an NBA factory, and is the “IT” school (your words).

Agreed, perhaps the reluctance to do so is part of the issue. Can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.
As for as Jaylen goes, he wants to play with Ivan Rabb, and it’s always hard to be THE team that gets picked. Different people will have different priorities. As for as recruiting in general goes, we need to step things up. You win some and lose some, so we need to put in the hard work, cast the decent-sized net, consider what we’ve been doing wrong, and get enough kids to make up for the ones we lose.
