Jaylen Brown - Will Likely Use OV for UM

@MattD, you might have missed the below tweet/article. To be clear, it does NOT mean we are "negotiating" with Under Armour, but I find the timing to be really stupid because it only throws attention to the fact that we may well switch from adidas. Unless of course, it's actually a calculated attempt to "remind" adidas that they should help us with Brown, but I doubt that. (also: warning: Freep link)

Wow…thanks for the heads up. I have to wonder WTF is going on? I mean, like you said, if we cancelled on Williams before obtaining Brown and now this…seems rather incompetent to be honest.

Did we not just agree to move past this 'swag' argument yesterday?

Dylan - no offense, but here’s my problem with your enforcement in a nutshell…you get worked up about the ‘swag’ debate but have nothing to say about the countless remarks about UK paying, cheating, doing underhanded things, etc. Obviously your site, but I think you would have to agree that it seems pretty suspect that one is unofficially off limits based on your comment, while the other is almost condoned…

I guess I’ve missed the multi-page threads about people cheating? I haven’t caught all the way up on today’s posts, jsut got home from work.

We know how you feel, but the drawn out debates that have nothing to do with Jaylen Brown are just a pain to read through and digress into things that have little importance.

What’s incompetent? Someone from the AD meeting with Under Armour a few months before the adidas contract is up?

FWIW, the idea that Michigan canceled on Kenny is conjecture as far as we know. Kenny hasn’t confirmed that (obviously he probably wouldn’t, but no one has reported it either).

I wouldn’t use a word that strong, but…we can’t wait a week to get this topic into the news when we know it could be one of our key advantages in a recruitment of this magnitude? Obviously it’s “known” info that we’re shopping but it just gives Kentucky and others more recent, topical ammo to peck away at any advantage that our adidas affiliation does bring.

I do agree, but they are only drawn out debates because as Wolverheel concedes, everybody takes it personal because they aren’t objective in the whole UM/uncool dichotomy. I personally think its pretty stupid to accuse teams of cheating without concrete proof…but I don’t make a big deal out of it because its most likely true to a certain degree with some schools, much the same it is true that UM probably isn’t considered a ‘sexy’ school in the same mold relevant to the Fab 5 era. Honestly, can you really say that it doesn’t have an impact on recruiting (rhetorical because I know you don’t want to draw the debate out). Kid want to play where it is more than basketball, it’s culture to a certain degree (much like the Fab 5)

Should’ve been more clear…its incompetent to meet with UA period…have you seen what they’ve done to Maryland football! If you want recruiting, you go with Nike…that is just the way it is.

Diamond Stone?

Diamond Stone?

Ok, let’s count up the ratio of elite recruits that go to Nike sponsored schools vs. all other…let me know how that works out. To deny that kids don’t STRONGLY gravitate toward Nike would be silly Dylan, and I think you know that.

Matt - the “base product we obtain lacks the tools to be great?” Well, to each their own, but by any objective measure the recruits Beilein landed from 2010-2012 - you know, all those scrubs who didn’t have any better offers - achieved quite a bit on the basketball court. Big Ten titles in 2012 and 2014, a title game appearance in 2013, the National player of the year in 2013, the Big Ten player of the year in 2014, and five guys in the NBA, with Caris likely to make it a sixth in 2016.

And clearly, every single one of those guys should have had much better offers. But of course, according to you, our coaching staff’s ability to find this type of NBA talent among lower ranked players means nothing when they offer someone you’re not thrilled with.

And by the way, in addition to the fact that just about anyone who covers recruiting knows Kentucky is dirty (just like, before USC got nailed, everyone knew they were dirty), why on earth would you care about those opinions being expressed here? I think you misunderstand the purpose of a MICHIGAN fan site, which is not to ensure that Kentucky is afforded some type of fair treatment and due process. And it’s not like Michigan fans are the only ones who think Cal cheats - the whole fricking college basketball world is convinced of it.

I mean, if you want to go root for Kentucky, I think everyone would be OK with that.

Wasn’t this already talked about? I thought if UM went away from Adidas, the switch wouldn’t even happen until Brown was in the NBA, so it’s a non-issue.

For those tracking Jaylen and not philosophical debate, the Wheeler Hawks acct just said JB will announce tonight. If true, even the optimist in me think it doesn’t look good

Breaking: JB will commit tonight, sometime after the senior banquet. #thedecisionishere

Jaylen either bought what Cal was selling, or doesn’t want to have to hear the pitch any more when he knows where he wants to be.

Dammit…I still have too much optimism swirling inside me despite my better judgment. Headed for a heartbreak…

Don’t set yourself up buddy! If you take the skeptical approach there is nowhere to go but up

So what time is the senior banquet?

He can’t announce until this thread gets 100K views!

I tried! It’s too late for me. Hope others can save themselves

Looks like after 9

As someone else mentioned, this feels a LOT like the DaShawn Hand recruitment. Supposed leader until the last 24 hrs. Refuse to get my hopes up

So what time is the senior banquet?

According to the Wheeler website’s calendar it’s from 7-8.
