Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

Let’s hope. Probably even Johnsmith44etc hopes.

Can’t see any content in there because I’m not an insider, but I heard the rumor was if Yak doesn’t get the HC job he is off to Texas.

i don’t believe the rumor. an ultimatum like that only backfires. If it’s true i don’t feel bad losing Yak.

One thing that hasn’t been said here–IIRC–is that Juwan could make Chicago happen for the UM. The guy has a serious success-despite-hard-knocks story that, Fab Five aside, should impress hell out of recruits.

Isn’t necessarily an ultimatum. Could just be a statement of fact. We shouldn’t expect him to stick around if he doesn’t get the HC job and a new coach isn’t hired right away. They may tell him they need to take a week or two to make their decision. If he gets an assistant coach offer right now, he’s most likely going to take it because it’s a sure thing. New coach at Michigan may or may not keep him, it’s an uncertainty.

Chris Webber just publicly endorsed Juwan Howard live during the Raptors vs. Bucks game. Him and Reggie Miller both stated they strongly believe he’s the right guy for the job and Chris said some stuff about how it’d be great for the University or something. It’s notable because he brought it up himself too. They were talking about DJ Wilson and Tom Izzo, who was courtside at the game. There was a brief silence and Chris said “now hopefully they can bring Juwan in…” i can’t remember the entire thing he said.
Chris brought it up about hiring Juwan though and then the quote below happened.

Whether fair or not, all these famous alums are putting lots of pressure on Warde to choose Howard.

FWIW Jeff Goodman just did a video on the search. He said the two hot names he’s hearing in the last 24hrs are Ed Cooley and Shaka smart. He said he would go with Cooley, seemed that he felt that way because he thinks Cooley would destroy on the recruiting trail.

Day 1: Moser
Day 2: Howard
Day 3: Smart
Day 4: Howard/Smart
Day 5: Yaklich

Didn’t Goodman also just post an article saying Chris Collins would be his choice for the job, but he thought Billy Donovan would get it? He seems like he’s a guy who doesn’t have a great beat on the situation. Maybe I’m wrong. Either way, I think we will get lots of clarity over the next day or two.

Poor reasoning since Smart already kills it on the recruiting trail lol. If recruiting is the main reason, why opt for Cooley over Smart?

Yep… Cooley is basically a poor man’s Shaka.

NBA conference finals are on and the outpouring of support behind Juwan will only be intensified in the next few days.

At this point, if Warde hires someone whose name is not Billy Donovan or Juwan Howard, he is betting his entire career on that person.

seems that the entire basketball world still loves fab five

Jeff Van Gundy coached Howard in Houston for several years. Wonder if the topic will surface tomorrow during Blazers vs Warriors.

Howard isn’t going to quiet the masses

Not that my opinion matters in the big picture, but Warde’s entire reputation with me hinges on this hire.

Given the momentum toward Juwan, if he’s hired is there any chance at all of bringing in Jaden McDaniels?

Seems to be a legit question to ask now but curious if there’s any legitimate chance of it happening.

He was considering us for a bit earlier in his recruitment. I would say he’d definitely listen. But hard to compete with Washington and Kentucky who have been on him forever

It was reported that Juwan played a critical role when Jalen McDaniels went to SDST. Their mom is a huge Fab 5 fan, I would be surprised that they are not monitoring the situation very closely.
