I was saying it entirely just because he’s the number one center on the board and Juwan is on a roll recruiting wise. But wouldn’t 2022 the year your initial comment intended? You said after he and Diabate leave.
Possibly already were there before the game, but Michigan top 5 nationally in 2 point FG% both offensively (5th) and defensively (3rd) gives this team such a high floor. Very hard to get blown out with that type off interior dominance!
At this point you never know with kids and the draft. I think he stays at least two years. As awesome as he’s been, keep in mind that he hasn’t hit a shot from farther than about six feet and also hasn’t faced a real center yet.
Think about Garza. Defensive issues aside, he was a dominate three level scorer last year for a full season and the NBA had no interest. Oturu had a great year and is more athletic and was a second rounder.
Let’s enjoy him while hes here and hope it is at least two years.
Really hard to gauge him re the NBA, but at some point he might figure he’s got nothing left to show in college and might as well shoot his shot. At this point it feels like it would be great to get 2 years, but that’s just a vague feeling and the memories of losing so many other players early.
Also makes a huge difference whether or not he wants to be in college. I know that’s an oversimplified way of looking at things to some extent, but some kids like college and others don’t. Hard to know how HD feels and how soon he wants to move on to the next part of his life.
How does Dickinson compare to Ethan Happ? I didn’t pay much attention about him as a freshman, but a less athletic (non-nba) post guy who can pass the ball doesn’t seem like a bad comparison, even if senior Happ is a far away from Dickinson now.
Really wish I woulda been able to watch this game! Had a final sales numbers meeting 8 min into the first half, and wasn’t able to watch. From reading, it looked to be a good game to watch! Happy New Years everyone!
Missed most of the game live… Skimmed through while catching up on the open thread here. Sorry if this has been addressed.
To me, the funny thing about the terrible techs is that it seemed to me like the game itself was actually called like basketball is supposed to be called and was otherwise well refereed. They were just totally unable to handle tensions rising a bit.
That was my take from reading this game thread too. Seems like the refs tried to keep the game under control. Sounds like HD was able to keep his emotions in check too.
If I was a Maryland fan, I’d be thinking that the Terps did an awful job defending Dickinson. A lot of his looks were way too easy and they didn’t throw much at him. Both Nebraska and Penn State played him much tougher.
He played great, but Maryland didn’t do themselves any favors either.
They’re pretty different. Happ caught the ball on the perimeter and dribbled into post position. Hunter makes many more of his shots than Happ ever did…Happ a better rebounder.
Pick your poison. Especially now with Wagner having consecutive strong offensive performances. And Dickinson has been good-to-great in every game this year. He scored almost a third of Michigan’s points in that PSU game. He makes other big men look small, weak, and lacking in manual dexterity. It’s almost as though we’ve got ourselves “a ringer.”
We still haven’t seen Hunter play against a center-sized center. That’s really the one thing left to see.
Can we talk about how Dickinson played the entire 2nd half and only got stronger as the half went on? Give him another year with Sanderson and Dickinson will be even more of a beast.
Also, I hope Chet Holmgren has been watching Franz’s last two games to see how he’d be showcased. Franz is about to go on a special run here.
Yeah, the stamina concerns should be gone by now. I do think he’s a guy the opposition needs to seriously game plan to take away, but he can be limited. Maryland seemed content to guard him with a 6’7”, 225 pound guy and did a poor job of doubling.
I will be curious to see what (if anything) Dylan thought of Maryland’s not playing with a center for the most part. Obviously Hunter ran wild, but their “center” - Donta Scott - had a pretty great game too. I’m pretty sure Hunter didn’t guard him (we played a ton of zone) but…
If that happens, the next few months are going to be a LOT of fun…
This is why I’m so excited by his court vision and how well he passes. I don’t think it will slow our offense down if teams do that.
Doubling isn’t the big question mark… the big questions are:
- Dealing with pick and pop bigs. I wouldn’t call that solved from last night’s game.
- How does he do against a guy like Kofi Cockburn?
More insight in the next couple games perhaps? Pete Nance is going to be an issue on a quick turnaround Sunday. Do we think that zone can be a large part of the solution with those matchups?
Aren’t many Kofi’s around but Liam Robbins will at least present some size and skill for Hunter to deal with.
