Game 3: Ball State at Michigan Open Thread

How do you not remember the million times we’ve interacted and that I know something about this game? I was pleased with the 2nd half and it reinforced my opinion that we were clearly a good bit better than the opponent. After the Oakland game, that bad long stretch was a concern :man_shrugging:

Please refrain from stuff like telling people to “F off.” If you can’t stay civil, take a step back and don’t type what you’re going to say. No need to get heated about sports when there are so many more worthy things to get mad about these days

You made it personal. You did. I mean, how is calling me crazy and joyless not personal? I won’t post here if people have a problem with it. I find it odd that someone like kturnup doesn’t remember how often we’ve interacted in past seasons.

I didn’t say I didn’t remember you. I’m just having a convo with you right now. Not hating and not in this beef right now

Okay, ignoring the flame war baiting for now, how about Livers!?!

It’s an interesting step that he seems to have taken. He hasn’t particularly improved his ball handling like many hoped for, but he seems far more adept at finishing/shooting off the dribble when he successfully gets to a point where he can. Kinda like a “well, that probably shouldn’t have worked, but we’re 15 shots in and the shots keep falling” thing. I haven’t seen a jump shot as consistent and smooth as his in a longing time.

The biggest thing I saw from Livers that’s different seems to be his ability to stop on a dime and elevate for a shot under control. I could be wrong but I don’t remember him having that in his game as much last season. Those shots were pure as can be today.

If Livers and Smith shoot 90% form mid range all year we’ll be unstoppable

I know Bardo gets correctly laughed at a lot, but his point about the Livers post fade not being as bad of a shot as it seems due to the elevation he gets when he jumps is a good one. I’m usually “argh”ing at my TV there (Hi, Charles Matthews), but if he’s got a 6’2 guard on him I can’t imagine it’s a low percentage shot.

I understand your intention with that comment, but I will point out that neither of them are just chucking mid range shots up without a second thought. On the looks they got tonight, I don’t think 50% is too crazy of an expectation. What was it, probably 8 attempts between them?

Yeah obviously not a shot you use all the time in the midrange, and obviously not a shot you continue to hit at this high a percentage, but it’s good to have more tools in the toolkit. I think for me it’s less about the fact those were midrange looks, and more about the fact that we aren’t too used to seeing Livers hit shots off the dribble with that kind of control.

Yeah I mean I don’t think they’re terrible shots or anything. But I’d say they’re like 40-45% looks. Which depending on the situation certainly isn’t bad. And really are probably our best options for self created offense.

Although I’ll disagree on that Livers fade. He really doesn’t hit that very often from my memory.

Let’s hope he doesn’t fall in love with that post fade. He doesn’t hit it very often because he doesn’t take it in very advantageous situations. If we can force a switch onto a smaller guard then sure, but against another wing/big it’s always going to be a pretty contested shot.

Livers is just a darn good shooter. Even better with two healthy legs.

I mean, early in the season it’s been damn good. Prior seasons I might agree with you, but if he’s worked on it and improved it…

Eh, we’ve got enough players who can score, we don’t need Isaiah to start forcing it. Avoiding the close out and taking a pull up jumper is good to keep the defense honest, but despite what Bardo may think about the midrange I’m still a Moreyball adherent.
