Game 21: Michigan vs. Rutgers Open Thread

I actually didn’t love that. I was wondering if that was leading to more o boards and sloppy play. I would like to have seen ddj a bit more this game. Eli was great besides for a 7-10 minute segment but maybe he was exhausted?

For this team to get back to the early season success we need all hands on deck and Isaiah to come back obviously. That includes ddj creating offense off the dribble and getting going from deep. Can’t go that if he isn’t in.

Both imo and exhaustion. Sprinkle in the occasional push off and over the back and it was a recipe for disaster. Also I haven’t looked at the numbers this year but it seems like a general weakness of the roster overall,

They’ve actually done quite well with it over the last couple weeks, but it’s been and on and off weakness.

Great win, lots to unpack.

Credit to Rutgers and Pikiell for reviving that program. This Super Saturday thing was cute when Rutgers was a doormat for something different, but now being a respectable program, they gotta look at making Rutgers the home team permanently. Its bullshit that M has to basically do this all over again in 3 weeks at the RAC.

On top of that, BQ says that MSU is playing Rutgers next year in this, but with Rutgers the home team. How the bloody hell does MSU always get the scheduling advantage?

Yea they did great against Illinois if I recall.

Dug a little deeper on Rutgers and I think this thing is for real. If they can hang onto Pikiell he has a nice roster to work from moving forward. They are only scheduled to lose Yebosa, Mulcahy, and Carter. I think they are still offensively challenged but that is a nice core to work from moving forward. Not a ton of high level talent but a tough college basketball team

Hell, he’s been in the NBA for the last 25 years! How could he know what the RAC is, Andy, but he sure knows MSG! Katz should have just said Rutgers Athletic Center, or whatever the hell it is! But you’re right, it was pretty darn funny!

Might be late to this one, but I noticed with the rebounding the issue wasn’t really bad bounces or length as much as it was just guys not boxing out or getting near the rim. Lots of guys would stand around and although Johns had some nice rebounds here and there, he failed to box out a couple of Rutgers bigger guys toward the end.

Yeah Johns pulls down some impressive rebounds from time to time but he is not a good rebounder in a team sense

Franz and brooks are major issues on the boards too, Brooks because of size and Wagner because he is just awful at it

One thing that stinks about Ohio st next is imo Ohio st is far better than their record indicates. Win or lose it won’t look as impressive as it is. They are going to be very desperate as well and they have the talent to hang with anyone on most days. Will be a very tough game.
