This was not an officiating loss.
His usage isnât too high. At times it doesnât feel as if he hunts his shot. He waits for the game to come to him.
If every road game is gonna be like the first two I might need to start buying my antacids at Samâs Club.
Odd = borderline dumb. Caveat: Iâm not a coach.
Bad lapses on defense coupled with cold outside shooting is a recipe for a loss. Illinois played like their tourney lives were on the line. Regroup and get home with a W Saturday.
We took 18 3-pointers. I donât think they were bad shots. We hit just 3. Didnât think it was a shot selection problem.
Inconsistent Officiating + awful outside shooting
Frustrating night. Will be interested to see in the coverage what adjustments were tried, because I was expecting something coming out of the half. I felt like a little more micromanagement would have been good. But it seemed to me that Illinois had a good game plan it executed well, and took a few gambles that worked. Hats off to them for playing a good game, and weâll see what counters Howard has in store now that thereâs more of a scouting report on his team and its ways. Michigan did play some pretty good defense in the first half. Cockburn threw up some nonsense for a while.
Props to Vegas tonight, thatâs for sure.
⌠and they got 16 more rebounds than us. We got outplayed.
6 FGs for Livers! He has to be integrated more on the offensive end.
Not an officiating loss IMO. The officiating was indeed ridiculous, but Illinois came with a good game plan and more energy.
I didnât mention, but it feels like this is the first time in a long time we got beat by size and not much else, and paid for having a small 4. Maybe since the Kentucky Elite 8 game, though I may be missing one or two since.
Vegas baited people into Maryland and Michigan two nights in a row. They are feeling real good.
Livers and Brooks are our two best shooters from 3, and they took only 4 of those 18. Illinois did a good job picking who would be allowed to shoot from 3.
I feel like they didnât create a mismatch on offense with Livers nearly often enough. They should not have been able to guard him
They got to the line 20 times. We got to the line 6 times. Seems significant to me.
Road games in college hoops, particularly major conferences, are just tough. Hard to say whyâbut itâs quantifiable. Outside shooting was poor. Simpson wasnât great tonight, took some bad shots, wasnât efficient. I agree that rotations are still bit a oddâthink Howard is still trying things out. Just a game where we were close, but just couldnât get over a hump.
Good point. I remember thinking that early on and youâve just reminded me of it here.
Lots of teaching and learning moments from this one â for both players and coaches. Somewhat surprising as to the degree they were out-hustled and out-aggressed. Ran into a desperate team that wanted it measurably more than we did. Watch the film, regroup and be AGGRESSIVE on Saturday.
IMO, Michigan wins this game with either adequate outside shooting or fair officiating. Didnât need both. Better sub patterns and adjustments to Ilinoisâ actions would have helped too
