Three friends on the team? I understand the Novak connection, but to be fair they never actually played together. Beilein also gets the credit for landing GR3 when no one else wanted him right? Who is the third friend on the team? Spike? He didn’t sign until much later.
@hailtoyourvictor @mpbear14 Can we move on from this debate about not making the tournament? I’m not sure what either of you are trying to prove and it doesn’t really have anything to do with the defense. You guys are welcome to take it offline via PM, just trying to clean this thread up a bit.
Personal connections can help in recruiting. It helped with McGary. It’s not luck that we offered Burke but OSU did not. It’s evaluation. Was it luck that Matta got Sullnger, given the family connections to the program? Was Izzo lucky that we dropped Winston in favor of Simpson? And that Bridges was Winston’s close friend? How about our bad luck in Battle’s de-commitment and Izzo’s good luck in getting Langford as a result. Was Izzo lucky that Valentine’s dad was a former MSU captain? Or that Forbes was from Lansing Sexton, too?
Was Beilein lucky to get Duncan Robinson - or smart? Did he luck into Stauskas, GRIII or Levert? Was he lucky to land Irvin and Walton? Was he lucky to get Wagner? Beilein is no luckier than other coach.
don’t forget about Jaylen Brown and the abdur rahim connection to Cal
I know this isn’t about defense but I don’t really want to start a new thread, and it pertains to the current discussion.
But I think people forget that it’s only been one bad year in the midst of a pretty good run. Mostly due to injuries but was going to probably be a rebuilding year anyway.
The high profile recruiting misses are rough. And the three ugly losses weren’t fun to watch, but I plan on reserving judgement until the conference schedule plays out.
Sure everyone can have their own opinion, but the one note negativity from some posters makes it hard to read the board sometimes.
