Discussion on the defense

Didn’t mean to imply that Michigan should have been included in the NIT. Meant that they could have easily won a few more games (given all of the OT games) and made the NIT in that case.

Got it. I do believe they should have been included in the NIT but that’s just me, and my opinion can be pretty biased. As always, I appreciate your input and your knowledge as it relates to, and I say this unabashedly, my favorite basketball team.

Didnt JB decline to play in any postseason tournaments last year unless it was the big dance? Or am I misremembering that?

Nope, he wanted to play in the NIT. Almost campaigned for it at the end of the year outside the locker room after the Wisconsin loss.

So you’re bearish on Michigan hoops?

I think this basketball program is trending in the wrong direction, and the writing was on the wall 2 years ago with how poorly JB was recruiting. We were living on borrowed time. Currently, I do not think JB is recruiting well enough to turn Michigan into anything more than a perennial NCAA Bubble team.

I have extremely high expectations for this program. Given our resources, upgraded facilities, and recent success, I expect to make the NCAA tournament 9 out of 10 years and the time we don’t make it, I expect to be in the NIT. In other words, match what our rivals do. The times we are in the NCAA, I expect to get past the first weekend more often than not. I respect what JB has done at Michigan. He has rebuilt the program. I have the above expectations partly because of him. This doesn’t mean he’s above reproach. His recruiting has been piss poor to say the least and his lack of attention to defense and rebounding is boarder line criminal.

Jakerblue, you cite Kentucky and I would have no problem with Michigan missing the NCAA tournament IF they had the number one recruiting class (even top 10) coming in the next year like Calipari did. Michigan missed the tournament and followed it up with a Recruiting class in the 100’s the next year. Next year’s class should be solid if we can hold on to everyone. With that being said, we haven’t addressed our issues on the block. We will be another work in progress. GIven the state of Michigan’s talent pool of high school basketball players, this is unacceptable.

I truly believe JB got lucky with the Burke and McGary Classes. I do not think he has the ability to repeat that string of recruiting. I believe last year’s play and this year’s play will be the norm going forward until he retires.

Yeah, we get it. You’re angry.

Hey guys just a heads up… If you receive a suspension or something like that and just create a new IP address it is pretty easy to detect.

I’m dying to know who that was lol. “We Michigan guys” just don’t get it. -_-.

Just because I don’t subscribe to blind optimism, doesn’t mean I’m angry.

Some high-major programs that have missed at LEAST the NCAA Tournament since 2010:
Kentucky, UCLA, Indiana, North Carolina, Arizona UConn, Syracuse, Illinois, Florida, Maryland

But yeah, it should not happen under ANY circumstances at Michigan.

Which one of those missed the post season all together? I’ll give you credit though, cleverly worded. I’ve made my point. I’ll bow out of this thread.

So you are going to suspend someone for having a different opinion from the masses on this site??

How things are going right now in this basketball program was fine in the first couple of years under Coach B. Circumstances have changed. With winning comes expectations.

If you want in most years to have to win a game or two in the B1G tourney to get in the NCAA tourney I can’t argue with you. I think the program deserves more.

No? That’s not what I said at all.

Kentucky lost in the first round of the NIT to Robert Morris.
UCLA missed the postseason entirely.
Indiana missed the postsaeson entirely.
Arizona lost in the first round of the NIT to Bucknell.
UConn missed the posteason entirely (not eligible).
Syraucse missed the posteason entirely (not eligible).
Illinois missed the posteason entirely.
Florida missed the postseason entirely.
Maryland missed the postseason entirely.

But yeah, it should not happen under ANY circumstances at Michigan.

I’ll re word. What was said that warranted the threat of suspension and tracking of IP address if another account was made??

IPs being logged, especially in the case of suspended or banned accounts, is quite the norm. In fact, I haven’t posted on a forum where IPs aren’t logged for that purpose.

Dylan gave a warning to everyone to lay off the bashing. If a poster ignores that warning and continues to bash, they have no right to hide behind the veil of “I’m banned for having a different opinion???”.

I’m one of the more optimistic posters here and I’ve received multiple warnings over the past 3 years posting. I’d be banned too if I ignored those warnings and immediately went back to doing what Dylan was trying to clean up.

Anyway…regarding the defensive problems…

What is Bacari’s influence here? He’s the “bigs” coach. Is he just puppeting Beilein’s demands?

I get JB’s block out philosophy is supposed to get the ball in guards hands faster for a faster break but are we gaining THAT much in fast break points vs. letting our bigs go find the ball like a traditional rebounding philosophy?
